Oh and the new XBOX 360 experience will support 16:10 monitors (1440 X 900 and 1680 X 1050) over VGA!!
WOW, huh?
It should be out around Thanksgiving.

Is this a new version of the console ?

Oh, in the end I went VGA, mainly to free the component port for the Wii, the colours are less bright (and this is something that to a certain extent I miss) but the definition is definitely better

Actually no, they are just re writing the system software. You'll have a mii (avatar) and get to install games to your HDD

To make it look better on VGA:
go to console settings, Display, reference levels and try different settings (standard, Intermediate, advanced) MS recommends using basic or intermediate for VGA, try it and see if it helps your picture quality. One last thing, make sure the sharpness (if your monitor has it) is off

Just like the Jimi Hendrix Experience but without the drugs and cool music!!

You know what I really hate? In Australia all PS3s come with a composite cable. NO component cable whatsoever. Dunno if XBOX 360s do the same thing, I imagine they do in our little backwaters village of Australia.

I get frustrated at the slower rate of adoption of new technologies here.

MS sells different bundles. While all consoles are now capable of HD output, only one bundle actually comes with the HDMI cable. My Arcade Bundle came with a composite cable. I've never used it! I bought the XBOX 360 to VGA cable when I got my system!

As for your frustration, you guys are 220V 50Hz, PAL, RHD........ Just do your best!

edit: go here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360 and scroll down to Comparison of Features

Hey I'm just glad new consoles don't come with RF cables.

And remember how they always managed to degrade in quality over time, so that eventually you had to fiddle with the plug to get a clear signal? Ack.

Regarding component/DVI/HDMI, I have all three and can say that there really is no noticeable difference between the three in terms of visual quality on consoles and anyone who tells you that you should go out and get HDMI cables for the better picture quality is a liar or a marketer. The only difference you may notice is with 1080p resolutions, which not all games support, when using component cable with media/games that won't allow 1080p over an unprotected signal.

Oh and whatever you do don't be like my mother and go buy $100 cables with gold connections thinking they will make the picture look better. $5 cables from Hong Kong will do the same job.
