Congrats.

Building computers makes WAY more sense than buying from Dell or Compaq in my opinion.

That actually depends on the purpose of the machine. Yes, if you are looking for ultra high end, gaming machines..., yes it's cheaper to build than to buy. However, I frequently work with business class machines, and at that level, it's actually more economical to buy them than to build them. Quantity purchasing of the components makes a huge difference in pricing.

I can truly agree with you on that.

You do realise Dell can get a deal with computer part manufacturers so they can get them much cheaper than can be sold for..

"You fit our parts in your computers and we'll give you an unbeatable deal"

I'm sure one of these parts are AMD, but they are at the moment behind for some reason.

I'll never buy, I'll build to the end. I could probably easily spend close to £3K on computer parts...

I know, that's exactly how they do it, Keith.

My personal desktop is built, but my laptop is bought, as are the systems for my parents shop, and the township I handle the IT for. I can't get the combination of hardware and software for close to what I get from Dell, and that doesn't even count the cost of my time to assemble everything.

You're going to play Crysis... on a Geforce 6200.

I don't think that'll even play Far Cry on high. You got a really crap card by today's standards, Crysis needs at least an 8800GTX for it to run half-decently on medium

it'll play crysis, and anyway, did I say this was a permanent setup? I plan to upgrade when I have the money, oh and the OS is that wretched evil pig, vista.
