Ok I have a Norton thing that scans every so often. Well the last scan a restart window came up so I quit the scan and restarted the computer. Ever since some sites (not all) bring up the same window over and over and over and over and over again. My only way of stopping it is pressing the power button to shut down the laptop manually. If anyone has any tips I'd appreciate it. (Also now when I load the computer a Norton box comes up and it goes to a site but I'm not computer literate so I'm not sure what to do on said site. thanks WP members and computer people. :-) BTW you can AIM me or PM me if you want to dig further into the issue.

I think you have Spyware on your computer and its not really a Norton problem.

Unplug your internet.

Restart your computer in save mode and scan.

Not sure a "save" mode exists, but definitely unplug the connection to the internet and start scanning the computer ALL OVER for all types or harmful objects, cookies, malware, spyware, adware, viruses, etc. Keep scanning until nothing comes up, helps to use multiple scanners when one is not permanently active and one to run on demand.

Depending on your internet browser, I would set about changing the home page or checking it out. Something like msn.co.uk as a homepage is good, or google.co.uk, or whatever.

I once created a registry file that can restore or change the homepage to whatever I want just by loading the file  and that was low-tech.

Look for software that shouldn't be installed

Boot computer into safe mode and scan with Norton. I would also get the free version of Ad-Aware to scan the computer.[The Pay-For program is a Memory/CPU Hog thanks to Ad-Watch.]

Using Windows is not a very funny thing to do if one decides not to have anti-virus and anti-spyware installed. Even if the anti-virus and the anti-spyware reports that your computer is not infected over there, there is a high probability that you are infected anyway.

Look at this page from download.com(regarding anti-spyware) and this page (regarding anti-virus). Most people in this thread probably already know about this place, but I'll post a link anyway. Maybe it can be of some help?

My personal favourite regarding anti-virus is Sophos combined with 2 online anti-virus scanners: Panda Antivir 2.0 and Eset Online Antivirus Scanner(NOD32).
