Thanks...

I am in Houston.

It is headed right for us! 8O

I guess I am lucky that I live in a giant concrete fortress with no windows.

So far so good, we've above the predicted storm surge range. Nothing even happening yet, just a little breezy. That will change tonight.
Beaumont, east side of the storm.

You are all so brave! We are in Ohio, and have been getting tons of rain, probably from Gustave, all day today.. The news media has made me quite nervous, concerned for all those folks about to be in the storm's way. Hunker down, batton the hatches, hold on to your hats, please stay safe wherever you are!

I'm new to this. I have experianced the long line at the gas station and a super jerk behind me who honked very rudely, despite my moving (he pushes people around obviously), last night.

My car is inside a four walled, concrete garage. yay :| We are ready for another power out and so on. ...... yeah, later!

Please keep us posted on what you are experiencing, the massive storm should hit around 10-11:00 pm tonight, they are calling for surges up to 20 ft., and waves to be as high as 50 ft. My Gosh, that seems unreal...I remember hearing about the Galveston flood back in the 1900's, and how horrible that was for the townspeople. Those who owned businesses near the ocean refused to leave, and the worst happened....Sorry to remeind you of this, please stay safe..........

I'm in the Houston area, but not where Ike could cause significant damage. (The storm will just be fun to watch, I hope.) It'll be weird watching my barometer go lower... 8O I'm glad I don't live in Galveston. The news footage from the area looks pretty bad.

New Orleans is getting winds and rain almost equal to Gustav. This is a big one.

All of that wind is blowing water toward the coast, before the storm surge shows up. Streets and houses are flooded, so the surge will ride over the top, up two stories, with waves and wind above.

Storms lose their wind quickly over land, but this one will be pushing water and the full force of the wind in Houston. I saw pictures of the streets, as the wind moves around the buildings, gusts to 300 could be expected.

The Houston Ship channel opens a path right into the city.

I ran from Katrina, I would run from this one. Water coming inland has nowhere to go but up.

They did nothing for Katrina, over reacted and put the population in camps, and troops in the city, for Gustav, Ike is being managed by the Republican National Comittiee just before an election.

Hurricanes have nothing to do with Homeland Security, or politics, it is nature, who likes killing things.

Store a gallon of water per person per day, for a week. An ax is handy for various things.

They're expecting winds all the way to Dallas. Looks like a bad one.

I'm in Houston too.....people are going crazy.

yesterday at the gas station there were people bullying their way ahead of others in line at the pumps...so i stood in front of this one guy's huge suv to block his way for another guy that had been waiting for 45 minutes or so...and the guy in the huge suv(who said, indignantly, that he had waited a whole ten minutes  ) drove his car into my legs and pushed me, just about crunching my legs in between his and another woman's car (who had also bullied her way ahead)... He was an idiot.

think things should be fine though....but i guess you never know...the winds will be fun to watch..

I'm in the hill country, between San Antonio and Austin, and we're going to get some of the rain and possibly some tornadoes here as well.

I'm in North Texas, so all we'll get is heavy rain and winds methinks.

I am strangely euphoric.
The whole thing seems completely unreal.

We are locked down in our windowless fortress on elevated ground.
this is one thing that is better than the old Super Happy Fun Land...in fact, after teh storm, I think I wanna drive by the old Super and see how it hed up..it is surrounded by old dying pecan trees that would lose branches even in simple storms...Also that place flooded every time it rained and the toilet would stop working...We should certainly fair better.....
