molecules together to make a powder, except water (as in methane hydrate).
Maybe some new form of carbon like buckyballs or graphene or nanotubes.

The silica and water act as "micro-tanks" for the methane resulting in reduced pressures, and the temperatures involved are not as
extreme for storing an equivalent amount of gas in liquid form.
