I am not an organic chemistry graduate as I would like to be but I may be abe to help someone perhaps with homework or something like that.

I know that Grignard reagents are a very srong base and a source of carbanions which makes these compounds very useful in increasing carbon chains of molecules This would be a simple elecrophile nucleophile interaction. Care as organometallics can be dangerous.

You can also introduce potassium cyanide by nucleophilic substitution to increase a carbon chain length.A good leaving agent could be a halide ion:idea:

hmm...have an off-the-wall trekkie-geekie Periodic table question. Sort of analytical chemistry, but it's basically the Periodic table of elements, but from Star Trek. For example, Latinum, a liquid metal, would occupy the same space as mercury; while dilithium, being similar to quartz, would be in the Silicon group.

I've done the whole thing in Corel Draw; it's a bit fuzzy, but I drew on some web sites for properties. Question, though, is how 'accurate' is it? I can send the chart to you through email, or I suppose I can post it at Photobucket (I don't seem to have much luck posting pictures in a thread here; why, I dunno..;)

I know it's not real chemistry (though I'm surrounded by chemists at work). If it sounds like something fun, let me know. If not, no problemo.

Having gone through both Organic I & II I can also provide help with homework (as an aside I tutored for Organic I this semester).

How to plate electroplate electrodeposit or gild gold onto copper?

I don't know what's useful or needed here:
I have variable DC power supply as rectifier, chlorauric acid, mercury ...
I also can silverplate on copper already in case that needs to be done first.
