Huge security breach in IE, users are advised to switch to another browser until MS gets a security patch up. What's to keep users from sticking with their other, more secure browsers (most likely Firefox) once the patch actually is released? Wouldn't this severely undermine the credibility of MS and IE?

This, my friends, is why open source is better. Very rarely has something been both proprietary and secure.

And they keep telling me Bill Gates is an aspie.

Can you imagine if that guy had a roofing company? All those leaks and patches, then more leaks and patches on the patches.

Bill Gates isn't even with Microsoft any more, and I'm pretty sure it's been years and years since he was last involved in the technical side of things in Silicon Valley- he was a businessman first and foremost.

I know that, but it's not like this is the first time there's been a big problem with a Microsoft product... or the second time... or the hundredth time.

I also know that. Right now I'm a little miffed about the automakers, the government making me pay taxes to "save" industries whose sales have been declining for the last forty seven years, to save the jobs of people who make four times as much as me for doing less work.

Yeah, back to the topic. The people who have been running the US automakers weren't personally involved in designing, engineering, and building the garbage vehicles people had sense enough not to buy. Still, they're responsible for the end product.

What's amazing to me is that Microsoft is still doing as well as it is, considering that so many of the better quality alternatives are free. Can you imagine if they gave away free Hondas and Toyotas?

There ain't no doubt that Bill Gates is a businessman.

What's Internet Explorer? I only use it as a backup, but I'm thinking about installing another browser in case mine goes belly up and I need access to the internet to fix it :P

I thought the idea of products was that software that comes with an OS is basic and you can buy one with better functionality?

Take Wordpad it's a simple version of an office package. They encourage you to buy other software. So, MS are encouraging you to use another browser as theirs is only basic ;)

I've been using Firefox for the past few days until Microsoft released the IE patch today and I am so glad to get back to IE!

Firefox was driving me crazy! Yes, it's a little faster and it has a spellchecker, but that's all I can say for it.

The much-vaunted adblock didn't block all the popups (IE does), and it's all or nothing -- there's no way to set it at a higher or lower security level like you can with IE.

The bookmarks are difficult to navigate. I've never liked drop-down menus where if you don't position the mouse just right the menu closes.

One of my forums was shunted to the far-left side of the screen instead of being centered.

I had to hunt for a command to create a new tab.

I had to install Adobe Flash Player (IE already had it installed). The automatic installation didn't work and I had to install it manually.

I hate the forced updates upon launch. I want to do updates on my own schedule, not have to sit and wait for one when I just wanted to check the weather right quick.

It doesn't give you an option on where you can save downloads after you do the first one. Sometimes I like to save things to the Downloads folder and sometimes to the Music folder.

It starts doing this weird automatic scrolling thing if you scroll through a lot of material quickly with your mouse's scoll wheel. The first time it happened, I thought something was wrong with either my computer or mouse! Then I saw the button-thingy in the middle of the screen and was able to disable by clicking a random spot on the screen. That got real old real fast.

I'm keeping Firefox on my computer for emergencies such as this one, but I'm sticking with IE as my main browser.

A good reason for me to stay with Opera. No need to wait for 10 years for a patch or decent update unlike Microfost Internet Exploder.

I only use IE for Microsoft Update for optional updates.

As for "users are advised to switch to another browser until MS gets a security patch up", I would advise users to "dump Internet Exploder for Opera, and if you don't like Opera, use Firefox" as this has been going on forever. Type in "allow an attacker to execute commands" in Google if you don't believe me!

I tried Firefox once, but when I went to watch movies in WMP, it always popped up a box asking me to open or download them, instead of streaming them automatically like IE does. I dunno if this has to do with the way the codecs are configured or what, but it was kind of annoying. Have they changed this yet, or was it just a setting that needed changed?

Microsoft Roof Update! We would get security bulletins about how somebody could come into your house and steal your things.

And Roof 95 and Roof NT are already obsolete. We are expected to upgrade to Roof Vista. But you will need a much bigger house.

To protect the Microsoft Roof, we put a wall made of flammable material on top and set it on fire (Firewall) and we spray it with isopropyl alcohol (Antivirus) and we write "PRIVATE" (Anti-spyware) and "NO BANNERS OR ADVERTISEMENTS" (Anti-adware)

It has little guttery things that need to be cleaned up as well (The Registry)

And you need to stick it on with Microsoft Cement (Activation)

And no chimney so Santa won't be able to deliver iPods or other Christmas presents (DRM) and you can't fit a flag with a skull and crossbones painted on it (Anti-piracy features)

That's likely to be a MIME type issue. I used to use Firefox (I use Opera now) and I never had that problem. Try uninstalling Firefox (using Revo Uninstaller, not Add and Remove Programs), and then reinstalling Firefox.

Be sure to download the latest version that can run on your system before you do this.

This is coming from Microsoft themselves can I add...

I know about the internet thingy, I continued using my computer, but I dud a security scan the whole time, so...

New threats aren't generally detected by the security scanners, since it's something they haven't seen before. I hope you don't have anything like your bank information stored on your computer...

Nah, we don't have any of that stored on here, also, I think the problem is fixed now.

On another note, it is mostly downloading things and stuff, which I don't do, so....
