Ok..given that it seems that most living things tend to realy on a one or two really good means to avoid troubles...Would intelliginet aliens really have bizar abilities? animals that have great defense, tend not to invest in things like offense, apeed, You dont see snakes that are posiness and constrictors..so being intelligent seems then to be one way of handling day to day issues, and once you invest n your brain, there seems to be little inctive to naturally select, super strength, speed, armor, claws...What do you think? If an alien has the intel to beable to come to earth through it's own artifiacal ly designed methods, would it be rather unmpressive in its other abilities?

If they have the technology to come to Earth, then I'd say it would be a fairly safe bet that they'd also have the technology to enhance themselves quite substantially through means such as genetic engineering, cybernetics, etc. As such they'd probably have impressive abilities in all areas.

To have developed a technology would imply they have dexterous fingers or equivalents. Big claws on such fingers may be an impediment, so it would not surprise me if aliens had fingers similar to our own. They could have claws and horns etc elsewhere I guess.

still, by the way that you present it, you would have to be looking at the big picture to get an answer. we know that as a more primitive creatre, they would need various naturally selected advantages, many of which would carry over to some degree as the creature developed such high intellect as a race. and as they rely more and more on technology for survival and natural selection abandons them for physical adaptations, they would only continue to rely on their technologies more and more and by the time they are reaching the capacity to travel to earth, they would long have been far different than what nature would have selected.

Interesting questions.

Also, of the available candidates within the species, who would they send first?
We tend to chose astronauts who are the most physically and mentally fit.
Or would they send a monkey or a rat, just to see how it works?
Or an engineered creature who would never really fit in back home?
Or a criminal looking to secretly exploit a new planet, who would never get approval from his own people?

Well the technology required to reach earth quickly would be far beyond our current scientific understanding. Unless they take something called a "slowship" that would take tens of thousands of years to reach earth.

Due to the nature of slowships however it's likely any aliens that arrive on them intend to stay on Earth or at least within the solar system indefinitely. I personally find the concept of alien settlers (not conquerors) randomly showing up on Earth one day.

Where did you find it?

In all seriousness though, Frank Herbert (or I think his son?) cowrote a book (I think with Clark) about just such a concept - slowship aliens that pop up and want to settle because they dont have enough fuel to continue.

We lend them near-equatorial Africa... until we figure out what they've been up to.

This entire thread begs the question of whether or not extraterrestrial aliens actually exist.

Aliens do exist, trust me. At night when I try to go to bed, I have difficulties falling to sleep because of shape-shifting Reptilians connecting with my mind through a mind mold. When they appear to me, the look somewhat human, but not fully. It takes them time to completely shape-shift into human form. Anyways, they do this thing they call a mind mold and it keeps me from sleeping at night. The mind mold put disturbing images in my head.

I was just watching Star Trek and some vulcan was talking about performing mind molds

I think it's mind-meld.
You need a tin-foil hat for that. Not aluminum.
And you need to tuck in in right.
Some people mold it around a funnel to get the right shape, but I think that's
just a fashion issue. I think any shape would work as long as you're covered.

In the event that sentient life exists anywhere else in the universe it would probably be somewhat similar to us, probably having high intelligence and not so great other abilities, may not look like us, and certainly not speak any earth language. However it would most likely have been around longer than us, allowing for greater advances in technology. It may have something like the prime directive, not allowing it to interfere with us until we reach it's technological state. Pose able fingers are a must for that technology. It also unlikely that another intelligent species exists in the universe.

"It is quite reasonable to speculate that technological societies never progress far beyond the point at which they have the means to destroy themselves."

Humans have had the ability to kill ourselves since the day we picked up a stone and used it for hunting. It's all the same, just at a more massive scale. The population is also at a more massive scale.
