My PC moniotr is whistling

Is this a sensory thing or should I get it replaced?
It's just making a high pitched whistling noise that would drive a dog crazy. It's driving me crazy.

My speakers do that sometimes. If I open a new website, play some music, or otherwise do something that makes a noise, the whistling stops.

If so it might be a few things if it is affecting your senses:

- The casing is vibrating against the electric hum. Try just touching the monitor, does it make a difference? If it does, then maybe a pillow right underneath the screen to firmen it up.

The only other things would be a transformer or capacitor making the harmonics within the appliance which would mean it's more of a grin and bear issue.

usually it's CRTs that did that. Some AS seem to hear higher registers like that. TVs, etc., tend to make the same noise. If you have a different monitor, you might try that. See if the sound goes or stays.

True, and when CRT's make a whistling noise, it means that the electron gun in the picture tube is about to burn out. Usually, CRT's make a faint whistling @16-18Khz, but the whistling will be louder and at a lower pitch when it's about to go.

o, is it that tone, that high pitch tone you mean

i hear that all the time & it is part of my tinnitis
(did i internalize that tone?)
best description of the tone: tv on, sound off - tone

in this case, though, i would believe it SIMply the moniot.te.r,
being purringly happy, whistling just a whisper of song

and yes, whistlin' dixie would drive me bugs'onutswithbananas,
but leave bluely moved monitor be happy in deed: patiently smile
& suffer in silence & simply embrace & alovin' the whisteling blues

As Xelebes has said, its a fault. You could take it in for repair, which would cost you anywhere from one quarter to one half the price of a new one. Or you can save up for a new one - as if it IS a capacitor problem, then one day its going to make a comforting *pop* sound and give off a little cloud of smoke as it stops working for good.

Wish there was an easy fix, but unless you're handy with a soldering iron, there isn't.
