A long time ago (skip obligatory Star Wars reference), I played a game on either the Gamecube or the N64. It started off as me being a pilot of a snowspeeder on Hoth and I was flying around defending Echo Base against the AT-ATs. Some you had to harpoon the legs, others you could shoot the neck. Once you completed that mission, you went to the next level which was a first-person perspective where you're in Echo Base and you're wandering the halls shooting intruders and if you opened a door with a wampa in it, it would come after you but it was pretty slow so you better hope you had enough blaster energy to take it down.

Anyway, I think the name of the game was Rogue Squadron but I Wiki'd it and it doesn't sound familiar.

Shadows of the Empire, on the N64. You were a new character in the Star Wars universe, flying a converted freighter with an outrigger cockpit pod and (IIRC) a single quad-blaster mount on the cargo section. You also had to infiltrate a base somewhere - I remember some frustration getting one door unlocked, as if you took too long getting back, it would relock, and part of the path from the lock to the door was an elevator platform.

The worst bit was at the end, flying into another section of the incomplete Death Star over Endor. It's hard to pilot a ship with an outrigger cockpit through a tight tunnel like that! And every time you crashed, you had to start over from the beginning of the whole damn mission...

Rogue Squadron was for N64, and there were 2 sequels for Gamecube. That sounds like it might be the 3rd one, which was the only one with ground missions.

Zelda on 64 was best game ever, aside from Mario Kart on Super NES

Shadows of the Empire came about before rogue squadron... so I doubt it was a sequel
