Dumb q about Adobe

I uninstalled Adobe (Acrobat?) a while back (I had a good reason, honest).

Since then I've tried downloading it from the Adobe site and installing it a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to work - i.e., I still cannot open PDF documents.

Does anyone know why this should be?

I need to install Adobe Reader, right? Or Acrobat?

Currently, reader is what you need. Acrobat creates the PDF documents...

plus reader is free, while Acrobat isn't.

I would recommend finding an alternate PDf viewer. Adobe's is awful, even after a slew of recent improvements.

Foxit Reader is pretty good, you can try it.

foxit is not free

Good PDF readers:

Windows: "SumatraPDF"
Linux: "evince"
Mac: Built-in

But really you should probably try Sumatra or evince or one of these other 600+ PDF programs or whatever at Download.com PDF software downloads instead of Foxit Reader.

Foxit was just the first thing that popped up on google. It is free though, contrary to that wrong person's word.

free as in gratis not as in libre, get your words right

use "costs nothing" for gratis and open-source for libre

I tried to download Foxit for PocketPC. It has annoying limitations like a banner across the screen at all times. Apparently they operate a system called TrailPay, which you get it for nothing but it you have to pick and offer from an advertiser.

BTW I love the built-in Mac Preview, and QuickLook!! !
