I received some sex texted messages spam on my phone. So I asked a few of my workmates what I sould do. They said, send a text back saying stop.

Some how this sounds like telling a thief, who behaves illegally, not to steal from you by saying, swiper stop swiping.

They probably aquired my number random stabbing in the dark and by replying they now that there is a phone at the other end.

What do you think

see if you can block the text number. Otherwise, call your service provider and report it. That's what I would do. If it doesn't work, you may have to request a different number (worst case scenario) or cancel text messaging on your phone.

ditto on that one. Texting back only tells them "Hey guys! We got a live one here!"

Hi Aspie_Chav,

You need to register your number in the National Do Not Call Registry. This is a database maintained by the US Government and will stop this sort of thing. If someone solicits you after it takes effect, you have a legal cause of action against them that will allow you to pursue the matter in a small-claims court.

Here is the registry website: http://www.donotcall.gov. Put every number you own into it and have your friends do the same.

I figure even if they somehow respected my decision to stop texting, which is unlikely as I could be an impressionable child, I figure they would sell my number to 3 party.

I find the same works for emails as well as spam texts. I thought by sending a reply would confirm to the spammer that the number exists and to continue. But in the times I have responded by asking them to stop, they DO stop... Otherwise you can elevate the matter as it's harassment.

yup...in general, in specific, on any medium....

never respond to spam. not back to them. You might also check with your phone carrier, and see if they can do something. Nothing succeeds like potentially bad publicity. Same goes for your local ISP.

I'd change your SIM card. If your on pay as you go they could be taking credit with each text, this happened to me. If your on a contract they could be reverse charging the crap to you. Check with your provider and consider replacing the SIM.

Well, one thing with spamming, is that if you told them to stop doing it, they may if they are located in the United States, the European Union, the British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia, etc,) or in Japan. These nations have the harassment policies, etc, that I am most familiar with. Much spam, to my knowledge though, comes from developing nations, and many of these nations do not have the sort of Law Enforcement policies in place, etc.

I do not mean this, in any way, to sound racist either.

I get this phone spam:

"Don't make the mistake of driving without a warranty...."

I always delete it before I hear the rest. I can't even drive!
