my ALT-key works fine - EXCEPT when using it on two of the rightmost keys on the main part of the keyboard. im using euro/norwegie keyboard, so the arrangements are a bit different, but

the key RIGHT left to the backspace
and the key RIGHT below that, right left to the enter

theyre supposed to produce an accent, and a curly-line (as in espana) when alt-clicked, but alt ignores them

alt DOES work w the other ones tho, so the alt-key works fine.

THEN

if i use SHIFT on the same two keys, it works, but twice as well, `` ^^ <--- the honest, unedited effect of shift-clicking the two buttons. it doubles each symbol automatically.
and it wont wait untill ive written a letter, so anything looks like this: "caf``e"

ANY clue whattf is going on here?

A couple things come to mind. Crappy key map, bad keyboard, bad connection to the computer, bad keyboard, something funky in the word processor you're using, bad keyboard...

I'm seeing a theme here. :P Normally, it's hard as heck to track down the little random errors like this, especially since you cain't be in front of the problematic computer. Keyboards, especially cheap wired ones, are just that. Cheap. I'd honestly zip down to the local computer store and pick one up. It cain't hurt, and it pretty much eliminates any hardware issues since the port wouldn't be likely to do this. Once you've got it narrowed down to software, then you have to determine if it's a system setting, a programme setting, or just that the software isn't designed to work with that right side set of keys.

Quick question. Do you have two alt keys? At least here in the US, nearly every keyboard has two. If you do... try the other one right quick.

The thing is though, I'd guess the alt key itself isn't the problem, as you said shift is acting up to.

Did you EVER spill anything on this keyboard? Even ten years ago?

"even ten years ago" is the clue here

yes, both alt-keys make the same result. they work on all the other keys, except the two in question. ive brought up a shortcut to the charmap, since ill need the accent for my writing :S

its a logitech keyboard, mouse too, which is also acting up (scroller's dead, left click is getting slow :( :( :( )

i was hoping for a quick and easily recognizeable problem. im doomed to just get a new keyboard, no? :(

Swap keyboards with another computer. Note results. Buy hardware based on results. Dont forget to test the malfunctioning keyboard on the alternate computer.

Fuzzy, you have a unique ability to say what I want to say, but make it make sense. You're my translator! *hugs*

OP, test your keyboard if possible on another computer.

Wireless keyboard? Most logitechs are now... Which means you'd probably have installed the special software... *thinking out loud*

Try that keyboard on another computer and let us know what happened. We can go from there.

You are welcome. Any time. Have I done it before? Thanks for the hug.

You have. I should bottle you up and carry you around or something.

OP, any luck with your keys yet?
