Use a partition manager to shrink a partition and create a new one for Linux

I'm only familiar with gparted and I'm not sure DSL has that. I'm sure Fuzzy or GustavHolst will jump in at some point.

Whatever you do, BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST. If you are changing your partitions, no matter how good a tool you use for it, there is always the possibility that something will go wrong, whether it is your fault or the program's fault, so you should make sure to have a back-up.

Go and download gparted http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ Put it on a cd or flash drive, boot from the live gparted cd, and I believe you need to unmount the drive to set up partitions and what not. Just read this, it's the manual for setting up partitions and junk. Gparted Manual

Damn Small linux is only 50mb in all, right shugo974?

You could try Mini Ubuntu Remix or whatever it's called.

EDIT: you should probably backup your computer.

A Gparted liveCD is about the best way to go. Make some room with that. Remember that DSL might be small, but your data might not be. Like all linux installs, I recommend that /home be in its own partition, if at all possible.
