Do you know of a good text-to-speech software that will read a block of highlighted text from adobe pdf or ms word (big files 100+ pages)? The more natural sounding the better.

Is it just me or do other people too find a lack of emotion in large blocks of scientific text?

I myself lack emotions already, and I've always preferred to be read to - I feed on the chronologic flow of thoughts better when being read to.

I use ReadPlease on windows nowadays it seems OK but I cannot say any I have used are very good.

For ages I used Monologue a windows 3.1 app that came with my original Soundblaster 8 card.

The text to speech that comes with apple OSX is the best I have used so far.

Do you have Linux or Windows?

Linux has some text-to-speech reading programs that you can use.
