Just thought I would drop a topic about one of my favorite shows:
Inu Yasha (sometimes referred to as Inu-Yasha or simply Inuyasha). Basically a half demon  named Inu Yasha is trying to obtain the Jewel of Four souls. A girl named Kagome enters the feudal age from present day Tokyo through an ancient well, and joins up with Inuyasha to fight demons and recover the shards of the broken Jewel of Four Souls. It is based on graphic novels by Rumiko Takahashi, who is a well known anime artist. I strongly recommend it, but be warned that it gets pretty violent for an animated show, and the the books have a couple seens with partial nudity, something removed when the T.V. version was made. Although only about 55 episodes were released in English there are 157 episodes in Japanese, which can be downloaded through bit torrent or file sharing (which is illegal, but many people dont mind). These have subtitles put in by fans, the subtitles being very accurate. I strongly Recommend Inu Yasha, especially to anime fans. It used to play weeknights on Cartoon Network, but now it only plays Saturday at 11 P.M. on cartoon network. The books are also worth checking out.

Visit www.inuyashaworld.com for more information. Don't want to make a link and bring the site crashing down. :P Joking, Joking.

Off of a Japanese dictionary via about.com

Inu:Dog

Yasha:Female demon.

So Inu+Yasha would be the female dog from heck?

At times, but the anime portrayel of many of the Japanese legends really distorts them.

Take Kitsune (Which literally translated means fox, but everywhere but Japan means a fox 'demon' or creature.) for instance. Shippo is a half kitsune half human, which means he is a quarter fox and 3/4ths human as a kitsune is a half human half fox, or a 'werefox'.

I don't really want to go in depth on it, but, most anime take the lore and twist it so badly that it makes me want to hurl.

Another example would be the famous Ruroni Kenshin. The reverse blade, his choice of sword, would shatter upon the slightest impact in real life. Why? Well, a sword, even a double bladed sword has a spine. Let me try to diagram it.

( or )= cutting edge |=spine i=dull edge, without spine. ]=dull part of a normal blade.

A Katana would look like this: (|] The spine is the thicker part of the sword, making it durable and not easy to shatter.

A broadsword would look like this: (|) The spine is in the center, providing support for two cutting edges.

A reverse blade, based on a katana like Kenshin's, would look like this: i)

That blade would be like swinging around a glass rod, the show is completely off basis with any legend I can think of.

Then we can take a look at Inuyasha again. It isn't meant to look real, like it really happened (Kenshin is, to my knowledge.) But, it completely twists the lore out of the original proportions, which annoys me..

Sooo, to close this up, Inuyasha is a cool show-but they should have stuck a bit closer to the actual legends the characters are based off of instead of the chibi look-alikes.

See ya.

Inu Yasha is a pretty good Anime....very dramatic tension between Kagome's love for Inu Yasha...and Inu Yasha's love for Kikyo... Who is everyone's favorite character, and who do you think would make the better woman for Inu Yasha...Kagome or Kikyo? Why?

I'm sorry to say this but i've seen a rb sword and it doesn't look like this
[|) it looks like a regular katana like the (|] the spine] is what is sharp and is used to cut what you would think to be sharp if the front ( but actualy it is dulled so not to kill but to stun but still Kenshin's sword isn't possiable to make because he filps from this (|] to this [|) which is IMPOSSIABLE what you said is partly incorrect so just wanted to correct that

it's hard to choose a favorite character. inuyasha has the best attitude-who cares if i'm 1/2 demon, i'll win anyway! nuroku is a worthy foe. and kagome i just like in general. i hate kikyo though.
i would like to say kagome perhaps when she's a bit older considering she starts out like 14 or 15 years old and is hanging out with a 300 year old 1/2 demon guy. talk about liking older guys! even so, she's still a much better choice then kikyo. she's already dead, and has nothing but hate in her soul and wants inuyasha to die. her body is made of reanimated clay. not much potential there. and even when they 1st started hanging out, it was a doomed match because she had to be a preistess 1st. so defintiely kagome. sorry for the long post, i just happen to really be into the show and i own the 1st 2 seasons

Yeah. I'm so badass I'll admit I actually kind of liked this one :P

I also think that all the episodes were translated over here in Canada. (It's quite possible the Cartoon Network got a different set of dubbers)

It started out with an alright concept. And, there were some good story elements. But after awhile it really started to seem like it all got dragged out way too long. I mean how many times is the guy going to narrowly escape death, only to come back stronger? It got crazy.

Yeah it's sappy. But I think there's room for sappy love stories.

But still, the animation was nice, and some of the randomness kind of helped compensate for how frick'n dragged out everything was.

So yeah, I liked it, but I didn't think it was great.

(And yeah it kind of butchered the mythology, but hey, creative licence)
