For the Buffy fans out there.

Who was cooler? Spike or Angel?

As for interestingness and depth of character, I'd have to vote for Spike. But note that that doesn't mean he's a good romantic interest for Buffy. Just that he's more layered than Angel as a character, and more fun to watch. The Angel/Spike dynamic in Angel season 5 was excellent television, and brought a lot to the show that it was previously missing.

That's the whole difference between Angel and Spike. Angel's a lot more broody and whiny with a soul mostly because he had it forced on him, he was just happy as a clam being evil. That's why there is such a difference when Angel is ensouled and when he is not.

Spike is basically the same with and without a soul. That's also why he dealt with the guilt better than Angel did right after he got his soul.

I kinda see it as Spike's mind, being that of a poet, infects the demon that took him over, making it want to be him, and finally surrendering after the attempted rape of Buffy, learning to feel some sort of guilt, and deciding to make the ultimate sacrifice and give Spike back to himself.

That's a very astute observation.

When Angelus was human, he was a hedonistic drunk and when he was sired it just took away any inhibitions he ever had. He became even more of a hedonist than he already was.

Which Angel then learned from when he got his soul back and gradually made him want to be a better person than he was even in life.

That's true. I like how they made both character's evolutions organic and change over time as opposed to instantaneous. It took a chip and lots of behavioral modification to make Spike change.

Spike.

I don't even really feel that this needs to be explained, but Angel was just so brooding and whinny, and he only had good lines when he was evil. Spike on the other hand, could do more damage with his sharp tongue than with his sharp fangs, which I both identify with and found far more entertaining to watch.

Spike gets my vote aswell. I wish I had anything to add but everything's been said already.
