The most overrated movies ever made are movies catered towards a teenage audience. If you ask a 16-year-old girl what her favorite movie is, it's almost certainly gonna be overrated.

Hurt Locker was good of its kind. How many films are made about people who disarm explosive devices? The only thing like I ever saw was the T.V. series -UXB- which was about British squads who disarmed unexploded German bombs.

I agree with Ruveyn...The Hurt Locker was an excellent movie.

There are too many awful films to list, so I am going to apply the tag "overrated" only to films that won the Best Picture Oscar when they didn't deserve it. (This is, of course, a highly subjective assessment).

I would include:

An American in Paris (beat A Streetcar Named Desire)
Around the World in Eighty Days (over Giant, The King and I and The Ten Commandments)
A Beautiful Mind (full of errors, yet it won over Gosford Park, In the Bedroom and Moulin Rouge)
Braveheart (I would have chosen Sense and Sensibility. Even Apollo 13 or Il Postino)
Broadway Melody (yawn)
Cavalcade (further yawn)
Cimarron (yawn, again)
Dances with Wolves (over Goodfellas)
The Departed (the least of the nominees. Even Little Miss Sunshine would have been a better choice)
Driving Miss Daisy (over Born on the Fourth of July, Dead Poets Society, Field of Dreams and My Left Foot)
Forrest Gump (Shawshank Redemption was robbed. Don't get me started...)
Gigi (beat Cat on a Hot Tin Roof)
How Green was my Valley (over Citizen Kane?! Really?!)
Kramer vs. Kramer (two words: Apocalypse Now)
Oliver! (The Lion in Winter? 2001: A Space Odyssey (which wasn't nominated))
Ordinary People (over Raging Bull, (sigh))
Shakespeare in Love (Elizabeth, Life is Beautiful and Saving Private Ryan were all more worthy)
Titanic ('nuf said)

I would have a tough time deciding between Titanic and Forrest Gump, but I will give the nod to Titanic because the sheer volume of its wins amount to greater overrating!

Donnie Darko and The Boondock Saints are arguably the most overrated movies in the last ten/eleven years.

How is the plot stupid? The plot is insanely original and mindf**king.

I can think of quite a few movies that are overrated:
Twilight -- Enough already! Edward vs. Jacob -- who cares?!
The Shrek franchise -- At first, I though it was cute, but now I think they're milking it. He got married, he had kids, what more do you want?
The Land Before Time -- How many more of these can they make?! How many adventures can you have when you're five, or whatever?
Farce movies -- These are just stupid.
Anything with Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, or any other teen star -- Just get sick of seeing their faces everywhere.
I'm sure some of you will agree.

Well. the plot is okay. But it isn't all that mindf**king. However. I do have to say that the book defined a whole generation of adult males pretty accurately. I also have to say that the movie was one of the best adaptations to a book i have ever seen.

The plot really isn't that mindf**king, although the movie is still great. I prefer the book, personally.

hahahahaha i would disagree with 99.99 percent of independent films, only because most of the population is unaware of eighty percent of a vast array of independent films, and lets not forget about the multitude of independently made porno.
