Just seen the teaser trailer for Roland Emmerich's new film, due out in the autumn, a political thriller set in Elizabethan England which suggests that the real author of the Shakespearean plays and sonnets was Edward de Vere, involved in the manoevrings of various parties to determine who inherited the throne after Elizabeth, and that some of those "plots"/manipulations might figure in the plays.

I did think to begin with that it was a rather weird subject for the director of "2012", "10,000 BC", "The Day After Tomorrow", "Independence Day", "Stargate", etc, but then again perhaps not, as many of the above, and others by him, do explore to great extent who will survive cataclysmic changes/disasters, etc, the processes of "selection" for success, etc! :lol

I think the graphics/visuals look great, like a sort of "Assassin's Creed" in Elizabethan England instead of Renaissance Italy. :D

And the cast is pretty good too. Who else is looking forward to this? :)

I thought this thread was about Anonymous, the people from 4chan.

The trailer looks nice, hope it is "coming soon"

Looks interesting, and bonus points for the Radiohead song. 4chan came to mind for me as well.

Not a fan of Emmerich in the slightest (though I do find 2012 highly entertaining just for all the ridiculous stuff they get away with) but who knows, maybe a big change of subject matter will be a good thing.

I suspect this was inspired by the horse s**t theory that popular back when I was in college, that Shakespeare was actually the Earl of Oxford. It's a recurrent myth among British right wing elements who can't stand the fact that Shakespeare was the son of a glove maker, rather than a member of the aristocracy. The only thing that they had plausibly proven was that the name of William Shakespeare may have been a pen name. But as for the Earl of Oxford - no.
The so called Oxfordians argue that the advice Polonius gives to Hamlet was based on advise given to the Earl of Oxford by his mentor and father-in-law. In fact, Shakespeare's patron had had the same man as a mentor as Oxford - explaining how Shakespeare could have gotten this information. So that argument is shot down.
But the best argument against the "Earl of Oxford as Shakespeare" theory is the fact that Shakespeare's last play, The Tempest, was written after the earl had already died. And in fact, we know this to be the case, because this particular play was based on the real life incident of survivors of a ship wreck in Bermuda returning to England with their story - which inspired The Tempest - as I said already, had occurred after the Earl of Oxford was already mouldering in the grave.
Leave it to that jack ass Emmerich to try ruining Shakespeare after he already tried destroying Godzilla.

US release date is set for September 30th.

Yes, it does seem like a strange subject for Emmerich, but a change of pace/subject matter is indeed welcome.

Not a fan of Emmerich, but after seeing the preview, am looking forward to this.
