Mostly it WAS the Planeteers working together toward a common goal, but when they got in trouble, and/or got in over their heads, they called in their Megazord -- I mean, Captain Planet. He would swoop in, use natural events (and would actually use a stronger version of the main five powers a lot of the time, hence "he's our powers magnified") and fix the problem, albeit temporarily ("until next time!")

Honestly, not the best of plans, as I'd be tempted to combine wind and water and just make a giant hailstone crush the polluters, but whaddayagonnado.

If that's the case, then can someone tell me why Captain Planet was released on Long Island recently?

Do you mean the series was released in Long Island? I know season one was released.

Captain Pollution was drowned in lava. I always thought that scene was odd, seeing how he was choking and drowning in lava as if it were water. But then, he would have drowned in water, too. I would probably have thrown all the polluters in there with him. I especially liked when the rhinos went after Bleak and Slaughter. They weren't so tough without their guns.

Captain Pollution probably would have SPREAD in water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Paci ... bage_Patch

Lava is just hot enough to cleanse everything that makes pollution.

True, unfortunately. Although I suppose he could be tricked into going to Antartica, which is still one of the cleanest places, despite the fact that people have seen to it to make the ozone layer much thinner, and be tricked into burying him in the permafrost there, as well as down the volcano. Now if the eco villains would do the same for him as the Planeteers did for Captain Planet when he was in trouble and try to rescue him, to end up trapped with him as well.

I remember they had a contest for a sixth Planeteer and what his/her powers would be.

It apparently never panned out, since I saw nothing about it on the episode listings.

Recycling? With a purple colored ring?

I can't recall anything about a sixth planeteer off the top of my head, unless you're talking about other characters they met in the show who became planeteers. They did not have rings, but they got involved in helping by recycling and encouraging other people to do so. I do remember they debated for a while about there being a fifth planeteer and what his power should be. They had the four elements, but wanted to add a fifth. I think they decided Heart because of someone Miss Pyle had met in South America, and she remembered they said something like 'some people work with their head, others with their hands, and others with their hearts'. And I think that's where they got Heart, and Ma-Ti is from South America.

I liked it until I realized how blatantly they promoted a "green agenda" with false information to little kids.

I don't like propaganda disguised as entertainment

Maybe that's it. After all, I've always had my own 'green agenda'. Right now, the main thing is that I'm determined to make the One More Generation Save the Rhinos Letter Campaign a success. Also, I want to help make people more aware about endangered and threatened plants. Many plants also face the same challenged as endangered animals do. Those are also my two New Year's resolutions.

I used to watch both shows, and yet I never spotted the similarity until someone pointed it out.

I think, probably Mr.Nicholas Boxer should portay Captain Planet when they do do the movie. I read that Captain Planet's face is supposed to be his. They do look a bit similar. http://www.flickr.com/photos/planeteera ... hotostream
