I am fond of the OP song of that series, Check my Soul kept getting stuck in my head. I did kind of hope that they did something more interesting, but it was not an awful sequel.
At least it is not the worst in the alternate reality route genre, that honor goes to Photo Kano. My favourite of the genre goes to Yosuga no Sora

So I just finished watching Mai-HiME, well actually just finished doing my review of the series, which no joke took like an hour to write after finishing the last episode. You can find my review and general thoughts of the series on THIS PAGE under the username DuskyPredator. I pretty much had my review done in two parts: episodes 5-16 and episodes 17 -26, which was a pretty good thing as the series has a major tone shift that changed how I would look at each side. All in all I would say that I actually loved it, in fact I might say that some shows I already though highly of are toned down versions of Mai-HiME, it may not match recent actions in terms of animation from being a 2004 anime, but the drama was quite expansive among the fairly large cast that was not limited by the three girls on the box art. It was quite funny and interesting in the first half, which I praised for its balance, and then the second half gets rather crazy, but actually in a way that did not feel that it betrayed itself.
Definitely a show that I wonder what took me so long to watch it.

I'm an Evangelion fan, so I can see why it's considered to be a classic, but on the flip side, I can also see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea either. I myself can only stomach it in small doses; it disturbs me too much to be able to watch it as often as I'd like.
Speaking of popular series that aren't everyone's cup of tea - I don't know why, but I just couldn't get into Attack on Titan. I've made about half a dozen attempts to watch it, but never got beyond episode 3. I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and get into it, I really did. Because hey, when you've been without a special interest for as long as I have, you're willing to try anything, just to see if it'll become your Next Big Thing. But as it turns out, Attack on Titan apparently isn't My Thing. I heard a saying once that interests are like ice cream flavors - if you try peanut butter ice cream once and don't like it, you're not going to keep forcing yourself to eat it in the hopes that it'll become your new favorite flavor, because it's just not going to happen.
Sorry for rambling!
I don't think people are as bad about it now, but I remember when Evangelion first came out the fans were really fanatical about it. I tried watching it back then, and got about halfway through the initial anime series before I gave up on it. It wasn't even because it was disturbing, since what I did watch of Evangelion didn't seem any worse in that regard compared to some stuff I'd watched (like Akira, Serial Experiments Lain, and Key The Metal Idol, just to name a few). The problem was that I just found Evangelion to be really boring, and just didn't find myself interested in it at all, maybe like you with Attack on Titan. I think it may have been the characters, which the story was obviously relying on having the viewer care about what happened to them. But since I didn't really find myself liking any of them at all, that just didn't work out for me.
I do acknkowledge that the series was quite unique though, and do understand why others could like it.
And hey, you said you like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure so you're okay with me

You weren't rambling, you were making a valid point, so I take my hat off to you.
I too feel the same way with Evangelion and Attack on Titan; I love both series but can't go on long sprees with either because they're both so bleak. I respect your valiant attempt with Attack on Titan - at least you gave it a shot for as long as you did.
I recently tried Kill la Kill but just couldn't stomach the fanservice nor its overwhelming energy and randomness; then again, I never liked FLCL (which to me, is pretty much the same thing without the near-naked girls) and I was never exposed to Gurren Lagan (spelling?), which I heard is pretty much Kill la Kill's spiritual predecessor as a lot of GL's staff who're working on KLK now. (and before anyone starts, I have no intention of watching it at all.)
Anyway, as you and Bitoku said, each to their own; variety is the spice of life after all.

I watched Kokoro Connect again, confirming my deep appreciation of the series. I tend to enjoy adaptations of light novels more than manga adaptations, on average. They tend to have better character development and more complex, congruent plot lines. I want to buy other disc with the 4 additional episodes, but I will try to wait and see if RightStuf! puts it on sale during their holiday sales (which started yesterday, and will continue through Black Monday). It won't be released until December 10 anyway.
Definitely a show that I wonder what took me so long to watch it.
Mai-HiME, huh? I also loved that show till I went batshit crazy after halfway episodes. Hell, No wonder why Madoka Magica had a same thing like this 8 years later (Mai-Hime was in 2004 followed by Mai-Otome in 2005).

I'm rather pleased Sentai Filmworks recently released the tail end of Kokoro Connect in English. I'm still not quite sold on Monica Rial as Iori Nagase but I'm glad Clint Beckham, Luci Christian and Emily Reves have found their comfortable pitches and they (along with Greg Ayres) are all performing brilliantly with the intimate character-driven story. Dang, I wish I could get this series on DVD but there's been no word on any domestic releases yet.
Otherwise, am still actively enjoying Magi: Kingdom of Magic and Shigofumi: Letters from the Departed. Aniplex USA aren't doing too badly with their dub of the first Magi series either; it's certainly good hearing Christina Vee again beyond Madoka (Homura Akemi)

I finished The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat. Once I started watching it, I found it so charming that I finished it in less than a week. I found the story a little difficult to follow, at times, but I'd guess that comes from abbreviating events in the light novels. I'd read them if I had time.
I'd heard a lot of things about Kill La Kill, both favorable and unfavorable reports, but anything that inspires such a variety of opinions seems worth checking out. I don't know what to call it except for unique, but I have enjoyed it and will continue to watch it.
I have continued to enjoy Monogatari Second Season as much as anything I've ever watched. I really want to own the entire series, but at those prices I just can't justify it right now. I enjoy the visuals as much as those in the ef series, but the story and characters take the show to a completely different level.

I thought that the last arc of Henneko was great, both funny and emotional. In general I liked Tsukiko, and I became a bigger fan of her voice actress, Yui Ogura for her work.
I thought that it was one of J.C. Staffs semi successes, although a little bellow Sakurasou, which I remember watching the season before hand, which rose my expectations. Yui Ogura played the sister in that one.
Trying to come up with another anime to talk about, for the last few episodes I have quite enjoyed Beyond the Boundary. I think that it started a little mediocre, especially when you consider it a KyoAni anime. But has really improved lately, I think when you find out the truth of the main Akihito, I think that was when I realised how beautiful the ED, Daisy was.

I should be able to watch episode 9 a little bit latter.

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about Beyond the Boundary. Whilst I'm not really a fan of Kyoto Animation's past works, Beyond the Boundary does seem to depart from the studio's usual comedy/slice-of-life rhetoric so I'm rather curious. Factoring in Juuki Hanada as the series writer (he was brilliant on Steins;Gate) and my weakness for the supernatural (Kekkaishi, Nurarihyon no Mago, Blue Exorcist...) I think I might give Boundary a go after all.
Other than that, just started Log Horizon - not bad so far, a much better-written and paced alternative to SAO.
