Paper Chase, episode of 'The Saint' from 1966.

Templar finds himself in Leipzig (many parts of which bear a suspicious resemblance to the Elstree Studios back lot stage set), where he is seeking to prevent a list of British intelligence agents operating in East Germany from falling into the hands of the authorities.

With the aid of a stolen police car, he manages to get back to the West German border after accomplishing his mission, but he can't save the hapless British agent who absconded with the documents, as the latter is cut down by machine gun fire from a watchtower. The incompetence of the East German police (the Vopos) is held up to ridicule throughout this episode.

What were your thoughts on this show?

I hear a lot of praise for this one and yet I also hear that same praise was actually falsely fabricated and that actual viewers thought this show was terrible.

As it's a comedy, it did its job and made me laugh. I'm not up on She Hulk comics, so I couldn't tell you how close it is with keeping with the original material.

The Russian Prisoner, episode of 'The Saint' from August 1967.

A Russian professor, who is with a Soviet delegation to a disarmament conference in Geneva, is planning to defect, and to meet up there with his daughter Irma, whom he has never seen before. Sounds like a good recipe for trouble, and so it proves - along with the inevitable punch-ups, there's a good deal of deception and double-crossing, and I think I'd have to watch this again to work out exactly what was going on.

Features Yootha Joyce, probably better known to UK viewers as a sitcom actress in the 1970s, as a sinister KGB agent:

The Power Artists, episode of 'The Saint' from 1968.

God, this was just unbelievably bad - it could easily be the worst episode ever made. It centres around the disappearance or murder of an artist called Perry Loudon and the attempted framing of Templar for this. The strings are being pulled by another Germanic 'Doctor Evil' character called Vogler. It's difficult to really care about any of this, and the inclusion of some 'Swinging London' party scenes don't help (they actually make it even worse). The only thing which caught my attention was a bit of dialogue:

Templar: "What if the police should question you?"

Cassie (a sculptress): "Oh, er, I know absolutely nothing."

Templar: "Good, then you can mix me some plaster of paris."

Cassie: "Just..er...mix it?"

LOL, was this a cryptic 'Cynthia Plaster Caster' joke? (Jimi Hendrix fans might get the reference).

When Spring Is Sprung, episode of 'The Saint' from March 1968.

Cold War espionage story involving double-double bluff (aka 'triple bluff'?). Templar agrees to participate in a plot to set free a Russian spy (John Spring, lol) who is on trial in London, on the understanding that the spy has secretly agreed to act as a double agent working for British Intelligence. Or has he? Of course not, duckie!

Statistician's note: Templar is whacking a guy in the mouth just 56 seconds after the start of this episode. Is that a record for this series? Could be...
