It is a real shame this fun reboot did not spawn another Ghostbusters franchise. It was very respectful of the original franchise and I would've loved seeing two Ghostbusters franchises going in parallel with shared cameos and cross-references.

Oh, in case the previous paragraph doesn't convey this:

Good flick! I like it! R E C O M M E N D E D I like it!

If I was in any way disappointed it would be I thought Chris Hemsworth's part was exaggerated and overdone . I assume he was supposed to be some kind of eye candy for the ladies.

 Um...somehow my bride, however, seemed to enjoy looking at him. Go figure...

I've tried to fight the temptation to mention this, but I can't.

This film was infamous for starting the trends of "woke" films and gaslighting critics and audiences with the whole if you don't like this film, then you're sexist message.
Um...so a film focusing on female leads is "woke"? Then what is a film focused on male leads?

A diverse cast isn't a bad thing. It's just every time they try it, they forget to add quality to the writing of the story and make the characters compelling. It's not about telling a good story. It's about pushing the message of identity politics. When their product sucks, they resort to gaslighting audiences and critics which is the worst thing a producer, director, writer, or actor can possibly do.

Exactly. That is how the positive slang word "woke" implying "understanding" became politicized to mean something super general and politically evil. So many politicians are evil.

By the way, I remember there was some hub-bub about the film when it came out. Some people politicized the film. Some people argued back. That's always annoying.
However, because of your comments about the film, that were stripped of the politics of the day, I am tempted to see this film because I trust your tastes. I'm not saying I don't trust Aspiegaming's tastes. When he saw this film, he did not like it. That's fine. It's all subjective. I have noticed that Double Retired and I have an overlap in our tastes in movies.

Movies I've seen recently (on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2023).
13 Nights of Elvira: Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death on Peacock.
This is a parody of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
Honestly, I was distracted through part of it. I need to watch it again. On first pass though, it might possibly be a dreadful 1989 film, but like I said, I was distracted. If I watch it again, I'll something more meaningful, but I've been watching Bones on DVD lately. (that's for a different thread post.)

I think it should be taken on a film-by-film basis, not based upon such a generalization. (Perhaps based on genre, however.)

Last night we watched another movie that did not have a diverse cast and we enjoyed it, too:

Prey [2022] We watched it in English, not Commanche!
<=>"The Hunt Begins"

Good film and a worthy prequel for the rest of the Predator franchise.

A good start Predator/Alien R E C O M M E N D E DPredator/Alien

pcgoblin: I agree, our viewing tastes do seem to have a lot of overlap.

I'm not going to say Ghostbusters [2016] is profound. It's just good, silly, shallow fun...as was Ghostbusters [1984].

Oh, Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death [1989] could be described the same way. Though it is perhaps even less profound; to my knowledge it does not have much depth, but a reasonable load of silliness.

Isolation.

Truly disturbing Irish horror film, where a genetic experiment on an isolated dairy farm spawns parasitic creatures. Highly recommended.

This weekend:

No Hard Feelings. It covers a lot of "territory" within its short run-time. I would agree with what most reviewers seem to have said about it.

Beetlejuice. Possibly ahead of its time?

EEK! My post miss-attributed the quote! The text beginning "A diverse cast isn't a bad thing...." is not mine, it was from Aspiegaming's post. Personally, I've got no problem with a diverse cast; I'd be OK with cast diversity that could not possibly reflect reality, if I enjoyed the show. And we've enjoyed a number of movies with diverse casts. (I enjoy Star Trek even though I don't think any of the Klingons are played by real Klingons!) I'm sorry for contributing confusion with my mangled quote!

Wolf Garden.

First rate, genuinely spooky werewolf movie from Britain. The story is told from the perspective of a man renting a secluded cabin who is mourning his missing wife, in which the story is told out of sequence, and there is little distinction between his dreams and reality.

I’m about to watch Expendables 4 at the movies. I’m not expecting anything great, I just want to go to the movies and I’ve seen everything else that’s on.

I thought it was excellent, I laughed out loud numerous times. Cranston and Hart have great chemistry.

The Wrath Of Becky.

Sequel to Becky, in which the homicidal girl seeks revenge against members of the Noble Men (Proud Boys), after they had killed the elderly lady looking after her, and stealing her dog.
While entertaining, it's not as emotionally strong as the original.

Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 1.

Ok, a little late to the party but it was fun all the same with some unexpected droll/dry humor.
So much fun I bought Vol 1, 2 and 3 in 4k (I was watching a broadcast recording).

The Loneliest Boy In The World.

A socially inhibited (autistic?) teenage boy, who had accidentally caused the death of his mother, is threatened with return to a psychiatric hospital if he doesn't make friends. So, he robs graves to bring home the corpses, which become his zombie family.
Very enjoyable horror/comedy.

Scarred.

You've heard of movies that are so bad they're good, but this slasher is so bad... that it's just bad. The killer is pretty much a Jason Voorhees ripoff.
