Let It Be (2024)
Beatles

I'd never seen it before.

I'll never get enough of John in that purple tee.

I watched a movie called Mal-Mo-E: The Secret Mission (2019 South Korea) yesterday. I thought it was great.

Last night I watched:

Miracle Mile [1988]
<=>"There are 70 minutes to the end of the world. Where can you hide?"

Harry is visiting LA and takes a side trip to the La Brea Tar Pits where he meets Julie.

He thinks Julie is the special girl he had always hoped for and he wants to go out with her. She is interested but has to work her shift, until after midnight, as a waitress in a diner. Harry and Julie decide to meet after her shift is over. He goes back to his hotel to get some rest and there is a power outage while he is asleep...so the alarm clock does not wake him at the correct time. He is hours late for the date.

In desperation he goes to the diner anyways hoping to find Julie still there or at least a way to contact her. In front of the diner there is a phone booth and the phone rings. He answers the phone. It is not Julie. It is someone in a missile silo in North Dakota who was trying to dial their Dad's phone but miss-dialed and got the phone booth. In despair they tell their Dad (actually Harry) that the decision has been made to launch nuclear missiles at Russia. Nuclear war will start in a little over an hour and, for all practical purposes, the world is ending.

So Harry frantically seeks Julie so they can be together.

   MILDLY RECOMMENDED

Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059124

Stars the great Vincent Price, plus '60s heartthrob Frankie Avalon.

If you're looking for some mild entertainment, and you were wondering where they might have got the idea of fembots for the Austin Powers movies.

Hera Pheri, 2000 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242519

The reviewers give it very high praise, but I think that you would have to be Indian to appreciate a lot of the jokes.

Last night we watched:

Hanky Panky [2023]
<=>"Hold onto your hats!"

Low budget. Low production values. But a lot of strangeness! That's stupid strangeness.

We both enjoyed it. It is now one of the weirdest movies in our collection, where it fits right in.

In the trailer you see an animated black hat, that's the villain!
The hero is an animated hanky who is not represented in the trailer.

House of Frankenstein (1944)

It aired on Me TV's Svengoolie, but I think the solar storm that provides the wonderful Northern Lights was possibly playing havoc with my reception. So I watched in from DVD, and then signed up for Frndly TV, a streaming service that carries Me TV and "40+" other channels. Now I have to give up one of the other streaming services I subscribe to.

House of Frankenstein is one of my favorite Universal Frankenstein photoplays. I vividly remember my younger brother and I going to the local community center one Saturday to watch it from a 16mm print. Then I saw it again a bit later on the Saturday night horror host show. That was in the late sixties.

Pet peeves - It bugs me to no end when I see a picture of the Frankenstein Monster and it is attributed to the wrong actor. For instance the Walmart seller Movie Market has this pictured labeled as Glenn Strange when it is Lon Chaney Jr. e-Bay sellers do this to. In the past I use to e-mail them. So annoying.
ImageNOT GLENN STRANGE

Double Retired has written about House of Frankenstein, and probably posted the trailer for it. This is for when the various lead character meet their end.

Star Crash.

My wife's Mothers Day present, as she love terrible movies.
Italian made Star Wars rip off, with a young David Hasselhoff, and even Christopher Plummer (who probably really needed the money) in a cheap space opera with space bikinis! It manages to do that which we all thought was impossible: have a screenwriter writing worse dialogue than George Lucas!

Watched The Paper Chase a movie about Harvard Law School students for the first time since the ‘70s. John Housemen gave the tour deforce performance as the professor that he won the Oscar for best supporting actor that I remember. At the time as a teenager I liked the movie, this time I found the characters off putting, even somewhat intimidating.

Maybe it was the clothing and hairstyles which really were at a low point in ‘73 when the movie came out. Usually I find those styles ugly but nostalgic when watching a film set in or from that time. Not this time. Maybe it was that they were being worn by adults not teens.

Hunterrr, 2015 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4333674

This one I highly recommend. It is about a womanizer who decides that it is time to get married.

Cold Skin

The movie had everything it needed to be good, location, effects, cast, cinematography... but the story is really muddled. Characters just exist and things just happen. Shame since good creature features are so rare.
