My Mom Jayne (2025)

Documentary about Jayne Mansfield directed by Mariska Hargitay.

My opinion, this was a very good documentary. There are times I felt a little uncomfortable when Mariska is narrating and when current personal footage was being filmed, but I don't know how if it is possibly not feeling like an outsider looking at something that should be personal. It was informative and well done. Maybe the more complete and honest documentary I've seen. Maybe???

I watched it on HBO Max, after watching John Oliver.

Final Destination (2000)

There are parts of this movie that keeps me on the edge of my seat. Then there are some parts that make my chuckle. Death really over thinks things.

Final Destination 2 (2003)

This is my favorite of the series, probably because it was the first one I saw, and it had several actors I was familiar with when I finally saw it.
"Hey, he's on Battlestar Galactica. He looks so young." - Aaron Douglas
"I've seen her on... everything." - Keegan Conner Tracy, a popular Canadian actress.
"Hey, she's on Criminal Minds. She looks so young." - A.J. Cook
Basically lots of Canadian talent that was on the Sci-Fi channel and NBC.

Some parts (no pun intended) are unintentionally funny like at the end when...Spoiler...

Noel Fisher's character blows up, and his arm lands on the picnic table in front of his screaming mother.

Also, one thing I'm glad that happened early on... Spoiler...
All of Kimberly's friends are kill in the minivan. They were flat out annoying.

Okay, there might be something wrong with me, because when
Ali Larter's character, Clear Rivers, opens the door in the oxygen rich room, a spark ignites the air, causing a HUGH fireball, sending her seared and flying down the hall. I find that funny.

One thing I did not find amusing was when
Rory (the druggie) gives Kimberly his wallet and keys to his place, and asks her to get rid of the drugs, paraphernalia, and porn magazines because it will break his mother's heart.
That always seems so sad.

One other thing I only noticed today. Justina Machado plays Isabella Hudson. Okay, she is pregnant and in labor, but after witnessing a car accident with Aaron Douglas, she basically says ignore them. I'm having a baby. Where have I heard that selfish uncaring for others attitude, and I do mean Attitude, before? Oh! She played Rico Diez's wife on Six Feet Under. Actually, it was more the character's sister that had the attitude. I am sure that Justina is a wonderful person. Don't judge an actor by their character.

Final Destination 3 (2006)

Of the first three films, I've only seen this once before. This time there was a lot I did not remember.
Actors

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim Saves the World) is the main character that foresees the disaster.
After her, I recognized people from their faces.
Chelan Simmons - Oh wow! It is Gretchen Speck from Wonderfalls and Hannibal.
Indirectly related to Wonderfalls.
Kris Lemche - He played "Cute Boy God" (IMDB's words) in Joan of Arcadia (similar to Wonderfalls which did not have god calling the shots) There were several actors that played god, including Joan of Arcadia star's (Amber Tamblyn) real life dad, Russ Tamblyn. Kris was the opposite of cute boy god in this.
Amanda Crew - I recognized the face, but had to look her up. She was Monica in Silicon Valley.
Again, lots of Canadian talent.

Also, lots of dismemberment, blood, and what's the word I'm looking for? Gore. Those are the three main ingredients of a Final Destination film.

Final Destination 2 is still my favorite of the three.

Next are two of the series I have not seen, Final Destination 4 and Final Destination 5. I am aware there is brand new version.

The Final Destination (Final Destination 4) (2009)

In the first five minutes, I thought, "this sure looks like it was made as a 3D movie."
In the first five minutes, I thought, "there is some really poor dubbing going on."
In the first five minutes, I thought, "I hope this racist is someone that dies." He sees a black security officers and starts whistling Dixie while he blocks the way with his racist foot. Later he calls him the "N" word. He is the first to die. I don't care if that is a spoiler. If you saw it, you would cheer too.
At 55 minutes into the movie there are more racist comments from and old white guy. "Do you know how many of you I killed in Korea?"
By 100 minutes in to the movie, I begin to think this is really a stupid film. Death is lacking its usual finesse. Killing the racist guy was the high point.

I knew very early in this film, there was no Canadian talent in this film.

Ooo. In the 3D movie, a couple of the characters go to a 3D movie. Okay.

By the way, I looked, and this was filmed as a 3D movie. I remember when that was a thing.

There was one part I really enjoyed. The opening credits. They looked like x-rays and were all callbacks to the first three films. In fact during this film, there is a sign that says Clear Rivers "something." I don't remember exactly what. But I thought, that was nice.

I know people worked on this film, and some of them really cared. So I'll just say "good effort." That acting was not terrible. The script and direction was so-so. My opinion. I'm sure there are people that think this is the best of the series.

Last night we watched:

Wild Wild West [1999]
<=>"It doesn't get any wilder than this."

I like this movie...which puts me in a minority.

It is a steampunk western comedy, which apparently isn't for everyone.

Final Destination 5 (2011)

Like The Final Destination, there is no Canadian talent.
However, the franchise has returned to its roots. Death has returned to its over thinking complex death scenarios.

Tony Todd as Bludworth, the "creepy" guy the deal with dead bodies (medical examiner), is back. He was totally absent in the fourth film.
Courtney B. Vance (Law and Order: Criminal Intent and ) appears as agent Block. I always enjoy him in a project.

The death scenarios return to the basics. Electricity, water, fire, sharp objects, and lots of stuff to make me wince and cringe, along with blood and gore. I'm not a blood and gore person, but I can handle it better than something sharp centimeters from an eyeball. Music motifs return. In this movie, it is Dust in the Wind. In the first film, it was Rocky Mountain High by John Denver. In 2, it was Highway to Hell by AD/DC. In 3, it was Turn Around, Look At Me by The Vogues. I confess Turn Around, Look At Me was really perfect because it is suppose to be a romantic love song, maybe even a religious song (???), but it is right up there with the creepy stalker vibe songs. The Vogues sing is beautifully.

And now The Vogues present The Drew Cary Show!

This is a guilty pleasure. So much wincing and cringing.

I think the fourth film should be renamed to something else unrelated to the franchise, and this movie decremented to Final Destination 4.

What's not to like? (please don't answer if you don't like it) I am one of the minority as well, for the same reason you gave.

I don't mind it either. I was not expecting much but I like a steampunk film.

The Pink Panther (1963)

Return of the Pink Panther (1975)

Streamed on <a channel> on Sling

I really enjoy the Pink Panther films. The first one is very different than the others, especially the later ones like Return of the Pink Panther which is scene after scene of Clouseau bumbling and things breaking. I think I can understand why Peter Sellers did not care for them and had some disagreements with Blake Edward, but I'm grateful they were made.

I don't think I realized that Catherine Schell was in Return of the Pink Panther. She was in Doctor Who, City of Death.

Red Lights (2011) staring Robert DeNiro, Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy and Toby Jones. How do you make an awful movie with a cast like that? Well they found away. Has a horrible ending that makes no sense. Sadly another wtf did I just watch? experience.
