Odd that fashion is in the same forum as Television... but I'll bite.

Do you have a distinctive, perhaps quirky, way of dressing? Personally, I've always liked to dress up... I have never liked jeans and t-shirt. Put me in a monkey suit any day. I don't know why, I just feel better in a tie than in a wifebeater. Well... plus I always was self-conscious of how my chest/arms/legs looked, so always opted for the long pants and long sleeves.

Over the past few years, I've developed a new style. I've re-discovered my love for the fedora, and have started incorporating swing, jazz and blues styles into my dress. As well as some Hawaiian accents, in honor of my father (a Pearl Harbor survivor). Yea... some NT's laugh, and mock. Though some think it's cool. And some call me "pimp." (Which I personally hate; I think the term is degrading to women...)

Flannel PJ bottoms and a Tshirt or thermal underwear shirt if it's cold.Mostly look like I get my clothes from a thriftstore or dumpster, becaue I do.No bright colors,no synthetic fabrics.

I am very trendy. I follow all the latest styles and can predict them up to the next two years! My wardrobe is very bright and colorful, with hardly any earth tones (I find them boring). I also love pastels, and about a third (of a billion outfits) are some shade of pink, need it be pastel or magenta. I also love dressing up even if there's no need to. See, if you dress up, people are much more likely to respect you rather than if you dress like trash. People see me as being more sophisticated, older, and more educated. And I like it when people think that of me!

I can relate!

I'd wear the same thing day after day if I could get away with it, but basic hygiene lessons got me off that as a preteen.

Nonetheless, throughout highschool I wore what's called vintage now, but basically I'd just grabbed all of the things my mother had put in the 'donate' box after she cleaned her closet one time... all the clothes she'd worn 20+ years before. Then gained weight as an exchange student and couldn't fit them anymore. That started the black clothing phase that carried me through college. I wasn't depressed or goth, it just seemed simpler for laundry, etc.

Some time back I went to Goodwill with a friend and noticed that everything there was newer/nicer than everything I was wearing, both at home and to work. WAKE UP CALL! Turned out she'd brought me there to 'show' me, since telling me on occasion hadn't registered.

I somehow grasped the idea of costume instead of fashion and that hook seemed to register. There's a work costume, a going out in public costume, special occasion costume, etc. That made sense.

My work costume consists of black skirt or trousers, always, and some blouse/sweater and jacket that I made a point to buy in colors after the same friend told me she'd throttle me if I bought one more article of black clothing. I started with neutrals, beige, grey, etc., and then got courageous and added some colors according to the season.

At home, though... well.... From the time I got home last Friday until Monday morning before work I wore the same black t-shirt and black yoga pants.

The idea of wearing costumes somehow makes dressing 'appropriately' more acceptable. But sometimes I still don't quite get it. Some time back a boyfriend said he had a longtime fantasy of a girlfriend one day meeting him at the airport in a bunny costume. I thought, hey, I can do that. Next business trip I met him in a bunny costume. The Easter bunny. While I was photographed by tons of Japanese tourists (this was in Seattle), and he laughed hysterically, mostly with embarrassment, I was genuinely shocked when he said he'd meant 'like a Playboy bunny". Oh well.

I go through phases, but have had a tendency since a child to get hooked on one particular outfit and wear it day after day. Currently it is these red velvet/cord crop trousers with long striped socks underneath and a blue or green striped jumper and brown half calf high boots. I never wear anything with heels. I used to wear all black...long, flowing skirts and laced shirts, kind of gothic-victorian look. I still have all those but not ready to wear them again. I also went through a long, long phase of only wearing very loose fitting jogging bottoms (think umbra, adidas etc) with loose sweatshirts. I didn't give a damn how I looked as long as I was comfy. Still don't really.

At work I've got my suit (business casual, meaning black pants, shirt but no tie and polished shoes)
At home, I've got my track pants and a sweatshirt
Everything else in between: Jeans and a t-shirt and/or sweatshirt if it's Wintertime.

Because I have a darker skin tone, I always dress in very dark colors or colors that MUST match.
For example, if I wear jeans, I have to wear a dark blue shirt or something dark.
It is starting to get really tiring. I can't wear yellow, orange, or gray.

Black combat trousers, because few other trousers are long enough. Black boots, because they don't make normal shoes in my size. I always wear a T-shirt with a shirt over the top, they tend to be a combination of white, black, or deep blue. Sometimes wear a black bandanna, tied in various ways. Fingerless leather gloves with spiked knuckles. Bandages wrapped around my arms. An A6 leather bound diary hanging from my belt by a chain. A leather jacket with glow sticks hanging from the lapels, and hazard tape wrapped around the right shoulder. And I habitually chew a gold-coloured safety pin, so that's practically a part of my wardrobe. Always gets me a few funny looks. :)

I have trouble wearing jeans and t-shirts too. My husband always used to accuse me of dressing up too much when we would go to simple places like the grocery store or park. I just can't stand the idea of looking like a slob. At home, though, it's a different story. I almost always wear comfortable athletic type pants and a tank top or sometimes a t-shirt, and always bare feet, because I don't like to feel restrained or hot. I guess it's my public persona verses my private relaxed true self. I have trouble letting my hair down, so to speak, and being that person in front of many people.

The funny thing is that I do like to dress up and look nice. So, which one is the true me?

I usually dress in black, blue or grey. I really hate wearing earth tones, green and brown. My ex tried to get me to wear them, my boss bought me some slacks and shirts so I'm obliged to wear them, but I really dislike it. The best I can do is at least coordinate them. I'm also someone who has to be color coordinated. (Although, my idea of coordination isn't always mainstream...)

Around the house... in the summer, usually nekkid... in the winter, pjs or a kimono. I can't even wear shorts and tshirts when I'm by myself.

The UPS man either really likes, or really dislikes, coming to your house.

I'm sure my husband would love to strike a deal with me where I could dress up all I want, in public, as long as I agreed to your dress code at home. :D Too many kids running around, so it wouldn't work, anyway.

I just wear what's comfortable. Jeans and a t-shirt pretty much.

I get ALL my clothes from the thrifty store, as result, I have alot of clothes, because they are cheap..there are also alot of item that I have coveted that were "ground scored" or dumpster dived..(I as I used to do that alot)
I cut the necks out of ALL my t-shirts, because they choke me.
Also, i screen print...so..like half the shirts i wear have images I have personally designed and screened onto them..the other half are t-shirts from bands that have played at the venue I help run...i like really comfy flowy skirts...vintage skirts and circle skirts..nothing constricting...and and constantly looking for comfy pants...like black stretchy capri pants..on the larger side..I wear alot of darker tones..plums purples browns olive greens...and I can tolerate a few tie dyes..as long as they are muted earthy and nebulous without a set pattern (I sometimes tie dye, and that is my style)...um..that's just for my regular clothes....
I also wear alotta costumes....
I have over a dozen wigs..I have a bodice made out of theskins of stuffed animals I have stitced together...I have a huge pile of crinolines and all kinds of other stuff....I have been in bands since I was 15..but eventually reached a point in my mid 20's where I declared that I would not go on stage again out of costume...so I have quite an elaborate collection.

I usually wear black pants, some kind of sleeveless shirt, and a long sleeve shirt or blouse on top. I never have to worry too much about being underdressed or overdressed, and my pants have a lot more freedom of movement than jeans. I used to wear bracelets and chokers, but it's too painful for me to wear them now.
