My favorite possibly autistic TV characters are Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds, Brick Heck from The Middle, Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle, Abed from Community, and Anna Kat from American Housewife. I find these characters to be the most accurate portrayals of autistic people I have seen so far. I can relate to the struggles that these characters have. What are your favorite possibly autistic TV characters?

Temperence Brennen from Bones especially the first few seasons before she got happily married ever after. She was the first that had autistic traits/presented socially at a level I could relate to. I was a kid at the time Spock came out and had no sense that I was relating to him on some level, he was just a character on TV I liked. Even today his presentation is at a more obvoius level than mine.

Mob from Mob Psycho 100 very much exhibits traits of high-functioning autism.

My dad is a lot like Spock, but with a sense of humor. Spock is his favorite Star Trek character.

Sue Heck is pretty relatable. She epically fails at everything she tries out for and gets bullied a lot. She gets along with Axl and Brick the same way my siblings and I get along with each other. The difference between me and Sue is that I never bothered with trying out for stuff and joining clubs because I knew I wouldn't like it, wouldn't fit in, and didn't want to be in anything. I like to think of the Heck family as the PG, Hollywood friendly version of my family.

Wolfgang played by Arte Johnson on the late 60's and early 70's sketch comedy "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" for repetitive behaviors. He sat behind a potted plant in his Nazi uniform and says "Veeeery interesting" every episode.

I love Sabrina the teenage witch. The aunts and the cat are really funny.

I know he tends to set off negative remarks even here, but I don't care. I like Sheldon Cooper on Big Bang Theory. Despite all the differences between this fictional character and me, I find him very relatable.

I would have liked Amy a lot more if she wasn't so hypersexual and so impressed by Penny, my least favorite character ever.

Amy is still particular about who she sleeps with. Amy is the most conservative female character on the show.

That's true, and I certainly like that. And I understand why her character was written that way in order to have her 'hunt' for Sheldon be comical. But I would have liked her better if she was more relatable for me.

I really enjoyed the sitcom “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” when I was a boy. It aired from 1959 to 1963. As I rewatched the series episodes, I quickly saw this was a television show about Aspies under the lens of rose- colored glasses. Maynard G. Krebs was a beatnik, but if you look closely he was of the sub-tribe of Aspies called a music Aspie. He was very shy and wore sloppy comfortable clothes. He was a natural musician and his whole obsession was music. He had one close friend who was Dobie Gillis and he was a loyal friend. Maynard was absent minded and had no common sense. He was a sweet good kind human being that learned how to walk first and then later how to crawl. He was “true, loyal, trustworthy and not one mean bone in his body.” Another character Zelda Gilroy was a very intelligent female math/science Aspie. She first appears in the third episode “Love is Science”. She decided that she and Dobie are destined to fall in love because of the principles of propinquity. Their last names start with the same letter, therefore when seats are assigned in the classrooms, they will sit together and naturally this close proximity will lead to love. The only problem is Dobie was not attracted to Zelda. Of all the characters, Dobie, was the most difficult to figure out. I think the thing that gave it away was Dobie has a wonderful purity at once childlike and profoundly stubborn. He was in his “Pleasing 4” stage of childhood development. The program begins in High School and Dobie has one great obsession, to find one special girl to call his own. But what sub-tribe of Aspie was Dobie? Well I had to use a little deductive reasoning to figure this one out. Many writers write from their own life experiences. If the character of Dobie is based on an individual that would someday become a very successful screenwriter of a hit television program, then that would make Dobie from the sub-tribe of literary Aspies.

So there are many threads on this website, crying out "how can anyone love me". This sitcom began in the high school years and it was all about looking for one special girl to call your own.
