The Day the Earth Stood Still [1951]

There are a number of movies I especially like. But this is the best.

The original Night of the Living Dead.

It was more than just an old b&w zombie movie that started a whole horror genre. It was the perfect social commentary on how things fall apart fast in the US and we the people screw things up because we're too selfish to cooperate together.

I absolutely love The Wisdom Of Crocodiles

They should put it on my telly more often but I've only watched it the once and it's where I first saw Jude Law and he's my favourite as well

So just that really

Weekend At Bernies was so funny

Probably one of my favourites just for it's silliness

Thank you for making it "movies" and not "movie"

I have to think about it because now with such a wide breadth of options, I cannot think of one.

I'm going to say Manhattan by Woody Allen. When it came out, I took the bus downtown to catch another bus across town many times to watch it. I don't remember how many times exactly, but it was more than eight.
I loved that it was black and white and the photography was beautiful, and the sound track featured Gershwin's Rapsody in Blue.
It was a good time in my life. So that is why I am picking it today.

Three more, because I use to tell my sons that if I won the lottery, I would finance someone to make live action versions of Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X).

Rurouni Kenshin Part I: Origins (2012)
Rurouni Kenshin Part II: Kyoto Inferno (2014)
Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (2014)

Sunset Boulevard (1950)

And now the monsters.
Gojira (1954)
Godzilla Minus One (2023)
The Lost World (1925)
King Kong (1933)
King Kong (2005)

All the films of Ray Harryhausen
Do I have to list them? Fine. I will.
Mighty Joe Young (1949)
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953)
It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955)
Earth vs the Flying Saucers (1956)
20 Million Miles to Earth (1957)
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958)
Mysterious Island (1961)
Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
First Men in the Moon (1964)
One Million Years B.C. (1966)
The Valley of Gwangi (1969)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) - With Tom Baker, future Doctor Who
Sindbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) - With Patrick Troughton, past Doctor Who
Clash of the Titans (1981) - the first film he had an animation assistant (Jim Danforth)
I did not list The 3 Worlds of Gulliver because I do not have the DVD and I don't remember much about it except Kerwin Mathews is in it. So I cannot say "All" the films of Ray Harryhausen. (why don't I have this DVD?)

Mighty Joe Young (1998)
Jurassic Park (1993)

Guilty Pleasure Movies (not the Hallmark variety)

Final Destination (2000)
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Final Destination 3 (2006)

I just noticed they are on HBO Max, so of course I'm going to watch them, all of them, instead of watching something delightful with Park Eun-bin. I've only seen the ones listed above.

Why do I enjoy these films so much when they always make me wince and cringe?

Side note: I don't own any of the DVDs from this series except one, the fourth installment, The Final Destination (2009) and I cannot not play it because it is Region 2. Why did I buy it?

We need something that plays region 2 DVDs. That is something the takes hold in my brain every few years. It's probably why every once in a while I buy a region 2 disc or disc set (Garth Marenghi's Darkplace for instance)

Aliens

Ghost Dog (Forest Whitaker)

Mad Max / The Road Warrior (original)

Spirited Away

Hackers

Drunken Master / Snake in Eagle's Shadow (Jackie Chan)

Many many other honorable mentions...

Sigh. I guess I'll just keep it on my hunting list.

I've only seen it once, Dec 13, 1980 (I don't remember the date...I'm an Aspie!).

You can probably guess I enjoyed it.
