Did you mean that cartoons might be more successful if they have bigger budgets? Or did you mean that cash cow cartoons tend to be derivative because more thought is usually put into merchandise than programming?
It was more of a throwaway thought on how a period of economical difficulty results in the production of a batch of cartoons that are of 'lower quality'. Of course, even among those cartoons, one could find a couple of gems.
