I went to see Tron Legacy, and it is amazing. Of course the snotty, ultra-elitist, intellectually absent critics trashed it (maybe they'd have liked it better if it looked like a virtual frat party with people holding guns sideways and a bunch of bands that sound like Korn), just like they trashed the original Tron when it came out. But Tron became a huge cult classic and I think this sequel will too.

I'm in the process of watching the film adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather. I have to watch it in chunks because it's basically 3 hours long. I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. It's incredible. The visuals are beautiful and the dialogue is witty and humorous. The characters are very likable. All in all, I highly recommend it.

Last night I watched the original Tron for the first time, though I did see it once when I was a kid but not all the way through. I thought it was good but not great.

Today I saw Tron Legacy with my sister and her boyfriend who has been dying to see this movie for quite some time. I thought the film was pretty good and better than the first one. The special effects were awesome and the plot was good but not great(though there are still some questions to be asked). The acting wasn't really oscar worthy but Jeff Bridges was pretty good at playing both the hero and the villain.

Last night I got to watch...

*drumroll*

Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer
(Thank you very much anonymous stream)

It was pretty good. Even though it wasn't subbed, I understood the general gist of the movie. Action sequences were fantastic to watch, music was top notch, excellent animation. Story did a few slow parts. For Gundam, this certainly has one of the biggest WTF moments ever at the end... It's been a long while since a Gundam movie and this one was pretty good I thought.

Its been a busy week for me.

Inception - great special effects but, pure fantasy. Emotionally riveting though, that was the upside.

Salt - Took some good twists but, still felt cliche.

Southland Tales - If you're sober and feel like watching this, put it on the shelf and wait for a day when you aren't. It'll be a much better view.

The Social Network - Interesting, liked this one a lot. Soundscore by Trent Reznor as well.

'Tis the season when I watch Edward Scissorhands. As always, good movie. Every time I watch it I'm reminded of how much I can identify with him...minus the love story.

I also recently watched The Good, the Bad, the Weird. Very good movie. Korean movie that was a mix of spaghetti western and Indiana Jones-style adventure. Great visuals...wish I could've seen it on the big screen.

There was also Mecury Man, a Thai comic-book style superhero movie. I thought it was pretty good. The worst part was some not-so-good wire work.

"The Men Who Stare At Goats" This was entertaining, but not a particularly memorable film. I thought the ending took it to a point of sentimentality that would have worked better if the guy had just crashed into the wall.

"The Beast In Space" I'm embarrassed to have watched this. This is a really bad Italian soft core porn film. I was hoping for cult film style cheesiness, but it really wasn't "over the top" enough for that. And I just got depressed when I discovered the lead actress died of AIDS later on. Basically the story is astronauts go to a planet to get some precious metal that a psychotic computer is protecting. The computer projects a satyr character that rapes people. Laughs ensue.

Strange, same here. Not at all what I expected.

Well I knew it was a weird film and I knew it was awesome, but I never really knew what to expect of it. I can say, however, it definitely met the "weird" and "awesome" criteria.

That film, along with Adam and Mozart and the Whale, is part of a very exclusive group of romantic films I actually like :P

I watched Black Swan and it was so good, I added it to my mental list of best movies of all time along with all of Darren Aronofsky's previous films.

I watched "The March of the Penguins" last night. I have to say this film really annoyed me. It's greatest crime is that of anthromorphicizing the penguins and implying that they think and feel in much the same way that humans do. Perhaps they do, but this cannot be established from what the film shows. Also another really irritating thing (And I guess they did this to get the "G" rating) was when a penguin gets lost and wanders off, the narrator says it "disappears" In another scene an adult penguin is shown dead on the snow and again the narrator refers to this as "disappearing" WTF? The penguin died. Dead! Not dispeared! DEAD!

I understand that the producers want to establish an emotional connection between the viewer and the subject and the easy way to do that is to pretend that the penguins are "just like us" They are not just like us. They are freaking birds that live in mostly sub-zero weather. Their experience of life is drastically different from human experience. Yes, we have common ansestors and there is the whole biological imperative thing that encourages them to care for and protect their young in similar ways to humans, but that does not make their behavior directly analogous to human behavior.

But that said, it was interesting to see penguins in their environment.

Killers - the first half was funny, the second half kind of lost me. They should have stuck with the comedy.

Saw Voyage of the Dawn Treader over Christmas and really enjoyed it. Best of the Narnia movies, IMO.

The Bank Job. Was very interesting and entertaining, but I find it pretty scary that it's based on a true story.

The Human Centipede. By the end of the movie, I didn't know whether I wanted to cry over the characters or vomit because of the grotesque things they were put through. The quality of the acting and cinematography surprised me by being better than I expected for a movie of this particular subject matter. I must say that few horror movies actually scare me, but this one did. It made me scared because one of my (and my parents') worst fears is me being kidnapped and violated by an evil stranger.
