Vision: From the Life of Hildegard von Bingen

Excellent movie, imo. I've been intrigued by her for a while. She was a 12th century nun who was also a composer, writer, philosopher, and herbalist who claimed to receive visions from God.

"Mulholland Dr." by David Lynch - This is a pretty good, twisted little mystery. When David Lynch is good, he is quite good.

Also re-watched "Songs From The Second Floor" by Roy Andersson with is fast becoming one of my favorite films. This is a absurdist, surrealist highly stylized dark comedy about how people selfishly look out for themselves and destroy others in the process.

Saw "True Grit" by the Coen Brothers. This was a very solid, well made film. The subject matter isn't necessarily anything that grabs my interest, but the film is entertaining and the characters, despite the very formal and arch dialog, are engaging and believable. If you are looking for action, perhaps it's best you look elsewhere, but if you like nuanced detailed characters, you will probably enjoy "True Grit"

I've seen dubs of American movies dubbed in Chinese, or subtitled. For instance, Lord of the Rings dubbed in Chinese, AND subtitled.

some of the Final Destination series (I love this series of movies. They're just so funny).

Get Smart in Chinese. ha ha ha ha haahaha.

I think the last movie I saw in full was the original Italian Job. Never saw it before, really enjoyed it, and it has a great last line. :D

Identity. Was okay--not bad, but nothing to get too excited about.

Yesterday, I saw the remake of True Grit at my neighborhood movie theater.

This goes to show Westerns are not extinct!

I'm not a fan of Westerns, but this was everything you could ask for in a Western.

The 3 I have seen recently are Inception and a double bill of Bette Davis: The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex and The Virgin Queen.

The Man Without a Body - directed by Charles Saunders and W. Lee Wilder (Billy Wilder's brother)

An powerful businessman is going crazy because of a brain tumour. His doctor tells him of a doctor in London experimenting with brain transplantation. "Don't think!", he says. "Find him!". In London he is seen by this doctor who confirms the diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. He notices a monkey's head living in a pan and the doctor has it transplanted in another body. The businessman tries to talk the doctor into doing the same for him. He is told that the head was dead for six days before it was subjected to a process restoring the tissues. "Then what I need is a brain", the businessman says.

He wants a brain worthy of himself, so he goes to Madame Tussaud's wax museum. There, he is introduced to Nostradamus. "Where is he buried?", he asks the guide.

He finds a disgraced doctor kicked out of the medical profession and arranges to fly to France to cut off Nostradamus' head and bring it back to England. There, the head is subject to the same process as the monkey. A month or so later, Nostradamus' head is talking on the desk in the laboratory. When the doctors find out it's Nostradamus one of them concludes that the businessman must be mad to choose this brain.

As is clear, this is quality.

Black Swan

Very good movie. Kind of trippy. A bit of a mind-bender.

Mad Detective

Also good, and also a bit of a mind-bender.

I saw Black Swan yesterday. Another Aronofsky masterpiece (sans the scenes of feet).
