All of the "Thin Man" movies from the 1930s, starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. Great movies! Especially the first two. The interactions between Nick and Nora are awesome.

The Green Hornet. I really liked it. There were some stupid, over the top scenes, of course, but overall I thought it was a lot of fun. Oh, and I really want Black Beauty...amazing car!

Blue Valentine. Really good drama. Not an easy movie to watch at times because it did get pretty raw and intense.

The King's Speech

I really liked it. Yes, I do agree the only miscast in the movie was
that of Timothy Spall as Winston Churchill, but the movie was very enjoyable and fun.

Green Hornet - intro scene was probably the best part of the movie (or, I can't remember, I should say the club scene).

Expendibles - For some reason I didn't care at all about seeing this movie but it was free on the airplane so I peeped it. Like most high budget and pricey cast movies it was entertaining, didn't really bother me that it lacked much of a plot when the point was martial arts and explosions. Entertaining but - definitely a one time watch.

Stone - Kind of like Revolver but a bit less blatant in that the eastern or esoteric religious pamphlet ending isn't quite as full on. Explored a metaphysical idea, didn't do a terrible job of it. Worth a watch if you haven't had the thought before and perhaps relieving for those who have had the thought before that their making movies on it.

Buried - watched this also at lights out on the plane. Alright, obviously very cheap and easy film to make. My take, thought the politics got a bit gnarly but creative, I'll give it that.

Tonight:

Machette - Very good choice. If you like stuff like Smoking Aces you'll like this, though I'd add there's a lot more comedy. Very funny and I'd say it was quite a high quality brain vacation.

RED - Enjoyable, cleverly built though there's still a good deal in it that you may see coming. Between this and Machette, Machette was still funnier but - still a good movie and worth a watch.

Tron(the original film). I had been meaning to watch it for quite some time and I saw it at my uni´s library.
It has some impressive special effects for its time and the storyline is good but the dvd quality sucked which somewhat spoiled the viewing.

I plan on watching tron legacy as soon as I finish my exams, even though Ive been told its far worse than the original.

"Santa Sangre" by Alejandro Jodorowsky - I first saw this in the theater when it came out in 89. I didn't remember the story very much, but the visuals stuck with me and I always wanted to see it again. Watched it Saturday and I enjoyed it a lot. It's violent, creepy and surreal with some really nifty images. "Santa Sangre" is more accessible than "The Holy Mountain" or "El Topo" but its still pretty off the wall compared to many mainstream films.

Roughly the story is the son of a couple of circus performers in Mexico witness his father cut off his mother's arms. Many years later, his armless mother helps him escape from the insane asylum. The son is forced to be the "arms" of his mother who demands that he kill a number of women with "her arms"

This film is not for the faint of heart, especially the scenes with the elephant.

Sounds like my kind of movie.
A couple questions - is there an English translation or subtitles? And, why does the mother want to kill other women?

The mother's reasons for killing is never really revealed, but she is very controlling of her son. Describing more would give too much away.

The recent Blu-ray defaults to an English language dub. I'm not sure how good it is. But since the Spanish seems dubbed as well, I'm not sure there's much difference. Also there are subtitles if you watch with the Spanish track.

9 - You know, that one movie that everyone says looks like a post-apocalyptic Little Big Planet. Anyway, an acquaintance of mine who has similar tastes in movies as me (he's particularly obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas) said that 9 sucked, but I completely disagree with him. It was hands-down one of the best animated films I have ever seen. It had a lot of intense action moments and was overall very emotionally satisfying. The bittersweet ending reminded me of Corpse Bride, but left me feeling happier/more relieved. I was especially happy that a couple of my favorite characters survived in the end. I personally found the little sack-puppet characters to be very cute, though they may come across as creepy to other viewers. All in all, I highly recommend this movie.

My wife and I just rented Grimm Love, which is based on the real life case of a German cannibal who found a man on the internet who wanted to have his penis bitten off and eaten. It's a very disturbing movie, but the two lead characters, while obviously deranged, come across as sympathetic in a broken way. That is, both men have had painful pasts filled with mental illness, and feel completely disconnected from the rest of the world because of their abhorrent obsessions - that is, till they find one another. Definitely not for the squeamish.

I recently had seen the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street which, was not too but, it did not have the creepy atmosphere of the original nor the dark humor one could say.Still, not a bad attempt though..

I've seen it, too, and in my humble opinion, it can't hold a candle to the Robert Englund original.
