Mary Poppins Returns

No violence
No drugs
No blood

Just some song, dance, and fantasy. A nice change of pace.

The Number 23

What's your verdict?

That is that Jim Carrey movie?

Yes.

It's not a bad movie, but not a good movie also. Although it was great seeing Jim Carrey in a non-comedic role, many parts of the movie were hard to understand.

If anyone has watched The Number 23 and didn't like it, I thought of three movies that are like The Number 23 that have similar plots to them.

Pi (Darren Aronofsky's debut film released about five years before Requiem For A Dream)

Memento (Christopher Nolan's "breakout" film from the early 2000s)

The Machinist
(A cult film starring Christian Bale as an insomniac who can't tell the difference between what is real and what is not)

Sweet Bird Of Youth (1961)

I've seen a lot of American films, and although I'd heard of Paul Newman, I didn't know anything about him and probably wouldn't have been able to recognize him. Anyway, he's the male lead in this, so now I know who he is. It's generally proclaimed that it's the female lead, Geraldine Page, who steals the show here, and I wouldn't disagree with that. Had never heard of her either though.

The film is a bit talky, and most of the people portrayed aren't very likable. The violent ending always looked inevitable, but it was also a happy one in a way, which let the viewer finally identify with Newman's character.

The Crimson Cult (1968)

Also known as Curse Of The Crimson Altar

A film about witchcraft by Tigon productions, in a similar style to a late-60s Hammer horror film. Cast includes Christopher Lee and Boris Karloff, but it's pretty lame stuff for the most part. The actress Virginia Wetherell bears a striking resemblance in this film to Veronica Carlson, who was starring in Hammer films at much the same time.

The Mummy.
The Tom Cruise bomb. I was surprised as to it's reputation. It was bad, just not the worst thing I have ever seen. If that makes any sense.

The Final Countdown (1980)

LOL, time travel nonsense, American aircraft carrier in 1980 finds itself at Pearl Harbour in 1941, in a plot that could have come from Star Trek or The Twilight Zone. Still, it's watchable and doesn't outstay its welcome. Clever plot twist at the end, which I should've seen coming, but didn't of course.

Kirk Douglas is the aircraft carrier's captain and he's looking a bit ancient here. Then I realized that the guy's still alive four decades later..... :-o
