My DVD collection, broken down statistically...
Seven
Twelve Monkeys
Fight Club
Snatch
The Mexican
Oceans Eleven
Babel
Burn After Reading...?
In bold what is right. Close! Now, I actually discovered a glitch. Twelve Monkeys I own, but it for some reason isnt reading the credits, so I actually own 10 Brad Pitt movies. Found a few others for some reason they are not picking up the credits.
So, you are missing 4.
Here are some actors in those 4 movies. In no particular order
Christopher Walken
Minnie Driver
Robert DeNiro
David Duchovny
Gabriel Byrne
eh, now you've made it too easy

You did ask nicely. But, then you quoted a rule that makes no sense. Maybe the rule should be adapted to say "Fits the page format of those people living in the archaic ages and still use IE on super small monitors"
Otherwise, I just cant see how I'm breaking a rule, it doesnt distrupt anything for me. Who are you...really? Who sent you to harass me? Was it Steve?

p.s. 129 Views. 1 person having viewing trouble. Your browser must not like CSS, try reinstalling.
I asked him to do something about your picture size. I'm sorry I did that; I should have just deleted your pics myself.
I'm running an Apple Power Mac with a 1600x1024 cinema display and using Safari 4.
If I have to scroll side-to-side to read the text, then your pics are way too big.
Considering how nicely Quatermass asked, your attitude is unfathomable.
I don't think it's clear enough that Quatermass is a mod. It doesn't say anywhere on his post/avatar, and Q could have been just one person having trouble.
On Firefox it was a bit large, ( a small amount of sidebar'ing ), but bearable, not half as bad as what someone has been posting on a thread about Scientology in PPR.
.
I knew the guy was an Admin, only a moderator from an online message board could possibly be that obtuse.
My attitude is unfathomable because I'm having fun.
The 'rule' as it is written is clearly just dumber than hell. Are people suppose to first make a post inquiring as to everyone who has an interest in an upcoming topic's screen resolution?
No, absolutely not. Now, since you guys are clearly to daft to grasp the point of the rule, i'll explain it out for you. It's there to give reason behind reprimanded people who are stepping over the lines by posting massive pictures, harassment, intentionally ruining threads and things like that.
You dont enforce it on a thread where the picture is just slightly too large, and warning is given as to incoming large pictures, and when the pictures posted contain acceptable content suitable for the forum it's in.
No one gives two s**ts if they have to slightly scroll left and right (and that point is clearly proven by the fact that so far mutliple non-admins posted saying it doesnt bother them vs. only admins coming in waiving their e-penis authority around saying it is against the rules). Whats next, gonna start making rules that posts cant be multiple paragraphs long because people shouldnt have to scroll up and down, it should all be readable on one screen?
So get the hell outta this thread, you are not moderating anything, nothing needed moderating. You are only derailing. Well, you may make a post to apologize, that is all.

Also, why not instead of me posting a text list, why dont you get a site admin to spend the 15 seconds it would take to put in the code that will place any oversized image into its own box so that it never has to become an issue again. Seriously, it's ridiculously easy.

Now, where were we before being so rudely interupted.

Ya, i just popped Pitt into google with any of those names and it brings it up =/.
Was Kalifornia, Cool World, True Romance and Sleepers.
And Gbollard, you use Collectorz too?
It's fun, just messed around with it the night I posted it, havnt gotten a chance to fool around some more, set my own paramaters and stuff like that. Seems like a lot of neat stuff to do.
My next task is getting all my DVDs onto my computer. I've got a 1tb and 1.5tb HD just collecting dust. Started to rip them onto my computer last year, but takes a while =/, got like 30 done over a week or two and gave up =P. But I just bought the 1.5tb the other week on sale, and with this program should light a fire under my butt. I'm just having more fun organizing and cataloging them right now =P.

oh... thanks a lot

I was referring to quatermass. But if you are one somewhere, I'm sure you are just and fare ! Its just here, not the first time i've encountered these nit-wits. Another admin banned me once because she liked astrology and I scientifically disproved the entire basis of it in like a 3 paragraph post (and to be fare, the arguement for the side of astrology in the post, was destroyed long before I got there through logical ideas, I just added undeniable scientific proof and she must have not found it as enlightening as others =). For some reason the admins here are like cops in a super rich town who have nothing to do so dig real deep and hard to try and come up with stuff just to somehow justify their online existance.

I've never used Collectorz. I just wrote myself a Notes/Domino database to handle it. Given that NSF is a format that's over 20 years old (and getting better every year now that IBM has realised how important it is), it seemed like the best place. My database is only 217 MB and it's taking advantage of the built-in features of Notes (lookups, views, access controls, clustering and replication, web enablement etc).
Also, since I do a bit of Notes development at work and I sometimes want to test things on systems with large amounts of diverse data, I'll often write generic code and add it to my DB before making it available in our proper business apps. It's all backed up with the nightly corporate backup anyway.
It's impressive that you'd get all the DVDs onto your computer. I'd love to do that but I can imagine the sort of storage requirements I'd need.

I've always been fascinated when people say they have over 1000 DVDs. I was wondering do you watch all those DVDs or is it merely a hobby where just collecting that many DVDs is the goal?

Willa, quite a few members here don't own their own computers and use the internet in public libraries. Others may be accessing from smaller laptops. Others may have crossed that age line where you need to reset your screen so you can actually read it. There IS a standard size assumption most websites make about the screens of users and it is usually easy to pick up on if you look at header graphics. It is simply a courtesy to re-size graphics to fit most screens. It is insanely annoying when you have to keep moving the screen page over and people DO complain. Your whole argument comes off as quite elitist and insensitive. It would be good to care just a little bit about others who may not have the same screen size or resolution as you do. Instead of complaining and asking everyone else to figure out how to make it fit, including many members who may not have the technical capability, why not get in the habit of downsizing pictures before posting? Even my 70 year old on-line friends have learned to do that one simple thing, and make a habit of it. One minute of effort by you saves your readers cumulatively many more minutes. Doesn't it make more sense for YOU to do it?
AND, whether or not you think it's crazy, you agreed to the rule when you joined. When told you weren't meeting it, you thus have a duty to actually care. Quartermass is just doing his job.

I take being called a nit-wit personally. And I was only doing my duty. I was in fact fully prepared to participate in this thread until I saw those oversized pictures. I merely asked that you reduced the size. From my point of view, you are disobeying the WP rules, AND mocking me at the same time when you refused. Do you understand that doing that is not helping my assessment of you?
(Personally, I would have loved to have seen your astrology demolishing argument, just for laughs)

On sabbatical...
It's weird but I didn't even know that it was a special interest until about ten years ago - but the signs were always there.
When I was a kid, I used to have a manilla folder which had all my drawings of movie posters, title fonts, my own personal review etc in it. I used to go to the local video store and raid all their pamphlets (and the same with store catalogues - though in those days, the 1980s, store catalogues were pretty crap). I'd get several copies of the catalogues so that I could cut out my favourite movie pictures and stick them in collages etc. I needed several copies because sometimes there were good films on both sides of the paper. When I finally got a girlfriend, I kept taking her to movies - and nowhere else - I learned of my folly after we broke up.
Anyway, I've got lists of all the films I've seen, which are only a few months out of date - here
http://sites.google.com/site/gavinbollard/my-other-interests-and-hobbies/movies
I guess I have the movie collector thing bad....
My DVD list has fields for number of times watched (not the film - but that specific DVD) and date last watched. As a result, it generates a "watch list" of things I've bought but haven't gotten around to watching yet. At the moment, the tally stands at; 60 but several of these are TV Series which I'm halfway though. I tend to watch one DVD per night (most nights).
I take being called a nit-wit personally. And I was only doing my duty. I was in fact fully prepared to participate in this thread until I saw those oversized pictures.
oh btw, I do moderate on WP - but I do it in "moderation"

That said, Quatermass is actually right that the graphs were distracting - they would be more readable smaller - which is exactly the reason I decided not to use graphs for my stats. It probably doesn't matter now anyway since they were several pages back.
Quatermass - you should participate in the discussions now, since it's your kind of topic and we're all interested to hear your take on this (and we've put the graphs behind us - on page 1).

Thats kinda why I down sized my collection a few years back. I had started to get a buncha movies I had never watched and really never felt like it. I was just buying new releases as they came out. And I started to kinda see that it was just becoming an obsession and not a hobby. GB has got a few years on me

I started doing Blockbuster Online. Where they send you movies. They carry just about anything, unlike best buy, and $15 a month for 2 movies at a time and unlimited instore rentals, cant beat that. Was getting online all the older movies and once a week stopping in for the new releases. But then they started raising prices, and getting slow, could drop a mailed movie off at the store and literally the next day a new one would be there, but it got slower and slower to the point it would be 4 or 5 days. And in the span of like a year it went from $15 a month to I think $33 a month.
So I started going at my DVD collection again, but buying online off amazon and other places. Actually creating lists of what I wanted, not just going into best buy and buying something just cause i couldnt find anything else.
I've pretty much got all my favorites except a few harder to get ones, a few foreign and silent era movies. But gonna start going the route of just buying all of one directors movies, got a list of where i'm starting. And just go from one director to the next.
Be a more astute collector.
And kudos to you gb for doing that. I started an exel database and was doing that. But I am too busy to keep track of it =/. I would keep buying movies and not get a chance to database them.
I also bought this program because it comes with this add on
http://www.collectorz.com/movie/windows ... er-mce.php
For media center. So if/once I do rip all my stuff onto a HD it is all easily linked to the database and watchable from my TV with ease. I've seen some free versions of similar add-ons for media center, but that it is linked to the cool database was the icing on the cake and made me dish out the cash.
And it'd probably take you a year to load everything on a HD =P. I did a quick search and found a free program that I was using, took like 20 minutes to an hour per DVD.
Gonna start searching to see if there is something out there a little nicer.
