Arrrrrgh adverts. Awful things most of them.

I am in the UK, so here goes...

InjuryLawyers4u and Billy Murray with his pseudo-tough guy act.

Any advert that makes a big fuss about: 1) women having periods, 2) kids sitting on toilets having a crap and their air freshners, 3) laxative for constipation, 4) bazuka that verrucaaaaaaa! I MIGHT BE EATING MY DINNER SO GO AWAY!

Injury claims company things. With examples like a man walking into a sodding great wall because he was not looking where he was going so he gets a load of money for it.

Coronation Street adverts. Corrie may be great, but their adverts suck. They are corny, cheesy and try to be TOUGH... but fail miserably because we all know Corrie is just a cute li'l soap aimed at elderly ladies with their slippers and cups of tea.

Car adverts. Yes. They use beautiful music, stunning scenery, interesting concepts - they really get you INVOLVED. Then you find out it's an advert for a heap of metal: aka, car. I don't like cars, I don't care about cars and I know nothing about them. I feel cheated.

Adverts for the latest Clubland cd's, posing as "the biggest and best dance tracks". When in fact it is not real dance music.

The adverts for Muller rice yoghurt things with the fake couples or fake families pretending to have silly jokey arguements about how one of them always eats the muller rices before everyone else and haha oh how hilarious it is.

Bingo adverts. Seriously... during the recession??? REALLY?

Supermarket adverts. Tesco. Sainsburys. Morrisons. All the store workers pretending to really love their job and really care about prices and offers. And being all smiley and jolly and laughy together. Hehe. Oh what a wonderful fantasy.

Compare The Market. Compare The Meerkat. No you are not clever for making a play on the word "market" and using it as a basis for your advert, because there is no relevance between the two. And it is not funny.

Any advert where they use one person in the advert but over-dub it with someone else's voice so they are out of sync and the person IN the advert is making a pathetically embaressing attempt at trying to sync. Why do it? It's tacky. Why not just use the voice of the original person??

And yeah I empathise with xalepax. I struggle to watch tv anymore because of the adverts. Not only are they embaressingly bad, but they are increasing. Ad breaks are increasing in length and becoming more frequent. Sometimes two ad breaks in one half an hour program.

I hate those ads that have shouting in them. Why do people think that shouting will make their products more appealing?

Those Progressive Insurance commercials, they just rub me the wrong way, especially the name your own price one.

Badly made pubs (and there's a few), sexist pubs (that includes most/some beer pubs...). And the ones that generally annoy the beep out of me are mostly because of the sheer number of similar products (ie: women "beauty" products, the whole range of it)

Those new Yaz birth control pills commercials-They always seem to play on my favorite channels and I must seem those ads 1,000 times by now.

Enzyte natural male enhancement-Bob's smile looks similar to a man who's about slaughter his entire family with an axe and the commercials' music and sexual innuendos.

The Viva Viagra! commercials-Just find the jingle annoying.

The Crest Bright White Strips toothpaste commercials-So, let me get this straight, people will only like you if you have the brightest smile, how shallow.

There's an anti video piracy commercial with really horrible loud music and jerky camera moves and other such things -- and the worst thing is I can't skip the bloody thing when it's on my DVDs!!

Goes something like: "You wouldn't steal a handbag" etc.

I'm not the kind who downloads pirated movies anyhow. But OMG that ad is horrible.
---------------

The other one is where they show the insides of smokers' lungs that have gotten all horrible and blood from a brain with a stroke, and tar on someone's lungs. Seriously. I don't think people should be subjected to that kind of imagery while trying to eat supper and have a quiet night in.

(I don't smoke either, by the way.)

As far as that ad is concerned. If any smoker REALLY need that kind of thing to give them the impetus to quit, better just to let them die.

Ditto on the tubs out in nowhere (yeah, that's sexy... not. I doubt they'll get much use out of the product sitting in individual porcelain tubs), ditto the Yaz. And I hate that Oxyclean guy. He yells about everything? What's so great about sliders, I'd like to know. So the burger's smaller. Whoop-de-flippin'-do.

I further hate the Time Warner cable company ads. They don't just advertise how they provide a good service efficiently, which they don't, but actually have cheers, hugs, high-fives, practically a danged parade, for their services.

And Glade. I actually think they make a very good scented candle, honestly. Considering the price especially. That said, the first commercial with the chicks going over to their "girlfriend's" house and getting a fake snooty routine from her about her supposed French candle was stupid and annoying (it's Glad-ay giggle giggle), such that the mind boggles at their choice to then make a series of commercials featuring the dumb, insecure, unappealing liar woman.

And similarly, the commercial about some product to fight hard water stains which shows this woman with her arm in a sling, lying through her teeth, with her child as a witness, to everyone in the whole grocery store about how she got hurt, only to receive sudden understanding, poor little liar, from another victim of obsessive hard water scrubbing. Seems to me that between the lying and obsessive cleaning they've got bigger problems than water stains.

Any commercial that shows people overreacting because of their unbridled lust for the product makes me, well, thoroughly disgusted. Like adults fighting for the last whatever it is, or stealing to get it, lying to get it, huge hordes of them charging for it or acting stupidly for it. With one odd exception... I actually did laugh when I saw a little old lady witting on a park bench tossing fried shrimp to a bunch of people in office clothes like crumbs to pigeons. No one was fighting or crying, just staring and popping up to catch the shrimp in their mouths. It was bizarre but I was able to appreciate the silliness.

I hate the commercials for medicines, I'm assuming they're required by law to be as descriptive as possible, but rather than going on for 5 minutes reading the entire warning label of the bottle, why can't they just say "talk to your doctor about ___)?

That and the anti marijuana PSAs that try to make it seem like the only reason anybody would ever have any desire to smoke marijuana is to fit in with their peers. I could give a crap what people think of my smoking, I smoke it to get high. The USA certainly has gone headstrong into the idea of marijuana being a "gateway drug" since you don't see PSAs about all the other drugs anymore, no more girl smashing her kitchen with a frying pan to explain heroin. It seems like they don't care about any other drugs and would rather focus entirely on misinforming the public about Marijuana. The problem is that you don't have to smoke it to know that most of what they mention as it's "down side" is BS and can be refuted just by opening a reputable encyclopedia.
