I'm a little older than most on here, so I'm used to the original series with James T Kirk. That was when he was in his prime, so I'd have to go with him.

I'm 15, watched TNG and voyager and Deep Space Nine on television.
We have all the videos/DVDS of TOS, TNG, DS9, (films included) and I think enterprise.
If I have to choose, though it's Kirk that I think is my favourite.
I don't think it's just that he's the original because the first one I saw was TNG so Picard is kind of what I think of as orignial, it's hard to explain what it is though.
Sisko, alright in that 'Day of Reckoning' eposide but he started off as a commander, not a captain so he may not count.
Janeway, somehow, I could just never believe her.

I adored STNG and so Picard is the only captain for me.

I still love watching Shatner on Boston Legal though.

Voyager was an obsession for me for a while..now I cant watch it on tv at all. :(

Janeway was a great captain, enjoyed her very much. This was also the only star trek series I ever got into. I dont really care for the new series.

Only 11% for Sisko? I am deeply disappointed. I mean, the man saved the Federation from the Dominion. What else did Picard do besides blow up a few Borg ships?

First Contact was the best movie, though.

I liked janeway because she always appreciated the moral ambiguity of conflicts.

Moral ambiguity? Sisko lied to get the Romulans into the war!

Also, Enterprise and Post-Kes Voyager never happened.

I like Sisco the best, but as he was not a Captain I'd go for Picard.

And Sisco didn't really die at the end. I believe the last line the character spoke was something like "I'll see you again soon" to imply that he would return, because the show didn't want to further the steroetype of a black father abandoning his family.

Yes. Also, she was open-minded and could listen to opinions and viewpoints that differed to or conflicted with her own, without going bat-shit insane. Janeway was quite a mature, sensible and intelligent captain, really. I liked her too.

Picard.

He does the right thing no matter what. He always tries to uphold the "Prime Directive" which is in place for good reason, but he's also ready to go against it if he really needs to. He's an explorer, an intellectual, a philosopher, and archaeologist and a human being. His interests are outside his own little world (ahem ahem KIRK). And anyway...it was Picard who was chosen to represent humanity to the Q, and he did a splendid job.
Who else could control a klingon, an android, a techy chief engineer, a kid who wants to become an officer, a doctor who's secretly in love with him, an overly emotional ship's counsellor (with a STRANGE mother) and a first officer who has to bonk every woman he meets.
I think Picard rocks.
