My favorite movie ending was the one for Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl. I loved how everything worked out in the end.

That was a great ending. Makes me wish they hadnt done any sequels.

Me too; it would have been great as a stand-alone movie. Even Orlando and Kiera are getting tired of the sequels (they didn't sign on for the latest installment). I really hope that On Stranger Tides will be the last movie in the series.

I liked the ending of Return of the Jedi, where Luke cremates the body and suit of armor of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker; the man who started out as his greatest enemy, but who in the end he accepts as the father he had always yearned to know. Then when the Force ghosts of Ben and Yoda appear before Luke, a redeemed Anakin Skywalker appears with them.

Of the ones that have been mentioned, I love the endings of "V for Vendetta" and "The Shawshank Redemption." Another one that comes to mind is "Inglourious Basterds." The ending to that one makes me smile, as does most of the movie. One ending that is considered a classic is "Planet of the Apes," but I found that one predictable.

Monsters Inc.
A very simple yet very emotional ending. Warms my heart and gets me teary eyed every time.

Star Wars Episode 3, Children of Men, Watership Down, Plague Dogs, 1984. Coincidentally, the last three feature John Hurt in the lead role. Of all of them, I'd have to sat episode 3. The shot of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru looking at the twin suns as they set with baby Luke all while the Force Theme plays made me lose it.

I like the endings to all of the Austin Powers movies.

Okay, I finally thought of one movie ending that I just loved. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty! Such a satisfying finish. Thoroughly sweet guy with no backbone and an overactive imagination gets mixed up all sorts of intrigue and almost is convinced by his family, "friends" and doctor that he imagined it all. When he realizes he didn't, he runs to the rescue, and this happens:

No, wait... First, if anyone wants to see a truly outstanding comedy with Danny Kaye, start here:

This movie for some reason has been very hard to find on disc. I haven't looked around for it lately, but I find it hard to believe that no one has decided to re-release it, and this copy looks so good that surely someone has remastered it.

Now, if you don't care about seeing the ending first, here it is, with a little extra before the best bit to show you just what the guy has been through, and what single common event has been enough to make the quiet Walter furious enough to take action (he'll take a lot of crap himself but he won't put up with anyone messing with her... awww...).

A movie I saw recently of which I loved the ending is 'Black Snake Moan'. Not necessarily a HAPPY-happy ending, but it does end on a hopeful note, with a touching scene that made me think.. "Yeah... these two kids are gonna be okay."

I agree on "V For Vendetta", but I find that, in general, superhero movies - whether they're great or not-so-great, tend to have pretty darn cool endings. The first 'Blade' movie springs to mind.

Seconded. That was so Tony Stark. And it's refreshing in a super hero story for the hero to freely admit to who he is.
