Belle seems to have been afflicted with what might have been termed "Stockholm syndrome", where a hostage develops a dependent attitude towards her captor.

Come to think of it, the princess from The Black Cauldron is never mentioned among all the other Disney princesses.

Isn't that because everyone hated that movie?

Hate is such a strong word, but that movie did do very poorly.

Well she's classy, she's sassy, doesn't take **** from anybody, and speaks her mind; all without coming across as a presumptuous b****. Did I mention she doesn't judge people by their appearances, but what's on the inside? She rejected Gaston, a handsome successful man who had a beast of a personality, and fell in love with the Beast after seeing who he was inside. Also, Stockholm syndrome is soooo romantic.

Personally, I think her character sends out a bad message to young girls. It appears that if the guy you're with acts like an insensitive boorish a**hole, then don't worry, with enough love, you can change him.

I'm not sure about that. Belle doesn't start out loving the beast, after all.

Rather, it's a story about how love can develop between two people who sacrifice for each other even if they don't click immediately. That's a far more sensible story than all the "love at first sight" ones.

She's not really a princess, at least not during the movie, whereas most of the others are.

Cinderella isn't a princess until the end either, is she?

I think she has some AS traits as well.
