I don't like horror movies. I prefer something with more of a realistic storyline to keep my attention. The Others, The Sixth Sense, Stir of Echoes, The Mothman Prophecies, and the like. Millennium had some good scary tv episodes and X-Files too.

The Exorcist
Alien and Aliens (The latter has elements of horror, but is more action orientated)
The Shining
Hellraiser
Saw (Not horror, but you get the idea)
Poltergeist
The Thing
The Last Exorcism
Carrie
Silence of the Lambs
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Cut out the romantic subplot and it stands on it's own almost)
Switchblade Romance
The Omen
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
An American Werewolf in London

Hmm, I don't like horror that much, to be honest. But that being said, I do have some favourites from the genre...

Jacob's Ladder

Resident Evil
and Resident Evil Apocalypse

Lost Highway

Silent Hill

Let the Right One In
and the remake, Let Me In

I think people fail to give Blair Witch credit it deserves because of the stinker of a sequel which sullied the movies' good name.

I read Clive Barker's novel, Cabal, which was the basis for Nightbreed. I personally think the book was a lot better.

I love horror films but mostly older ones. I'm not much of a gorehound as I was when I was a teen but I prefer films with atmosphere. I want to be frightened and disturbed not just immersed in gore/hyperfast violence. My list:
The Gates of Hell
Halloween 1-4 (not the Rob Zombie remakes)
The Evil Dead 1 and 2
Hellraiser
Piranha
The Thing
Let's Scare Jessica to death
Amityville horror 2 the possession
Hell night
The Burning
Evilspeak
Creepshow
Sleepy Hollow
Etc.

I have always loved horror.

My faves:

Alien - The most frightening creature ever in a film
Halloween (1978) - Michael Myers is like the terminator.
The Fog (1980) - The best ghost story ever
The Omen (1976) - Great feel to this film and great acting
Candyman - The horror of insanity
Blair Witch - The horror of the unknown (for the viewer at least)
Hellraiser - The grim masochistic horror of hell
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1975) - Total nightmare scenario!

I am sure there are more but these stand out a mile
