Would you trust Oprah to do a show on Asperger's?

You know, now that I think about it, some portion of me is just fine with the public knowing as much as they know now. I fear if it becomes a big known thing then there will be a lot of over diagnosis of people who aren't really autistic at all, such as what occurs with ADHD and Bipolar Disorder -- the is a lot of things about that which I despise.

Success, especially if you are in the entertainment industry sells hugely. And there are a few aspie actors. They're often the ones that look great on screen and profoundly uncomfortable or wooden being interviewed on talk shows.

that way yes but i mean with someone who has a certain problem and gets a job in an office or somthing like that its kind of boring but it is what I mean by succes. i don't mean famous with 12 houses and a private jet successful. i should have explained .

Yes that is true Raph, we would have to represent some extreme aspect of human nature before we would be worthy of being tv entertainment.

On a more serious note, If Oprah was to do a show on AS, I think that she should bring three different Aspies on the show. One who's affected very mildly, one who's affected more strongly, and one who falls in between the two extreames.

I think you would be a great Oprah guest. Not because you are extreme but because you are unique and have interesting things to say that would allow people to know AS is not a disease but an aspect of human diversity.

no , Oprha has used guest on her show terribly. there was a show about teenage girl having sex , she basicly attacked them and called them names, this was a disservice to them and herself. okay she gives good carity but the women does not go without. austism is too senitive a subjet to deal with in 8 minute segment. we are to different to be bunched in together. dr phil did a interesting rave on a teenge boy with asgergers and thought the program was very good.i dont trust her but i love her girl friend gail. when will they ever come out?

i trust oprah to exploit it like she does everything else.

please back off. i replyed to a heavy subject and ended with a lite joke. where is your sence of humour. maybe i am just jealous......? real i dont care about her sexaulity i care about her ability to do a fair job! oprah is a part of a captist machine she does care much. this is the woman who spent a whole show talking about her dog? please please please pick one of the autistic people of the world to represent us. who is it, the rainman , bill gates, or a person of mutible problems. what is autistic ,who is autistic who is most autistic. please tell me the person that oprah can interview to repersent us all? i cant tell why you people get so agro i thougth this site was about free speach!! !! !

Prior to 1995, I would've said that Oprah should do such a show. Her show was more issue-oriented than showbiz oriented back then. But then Asperger's was barely even known back then!

Yeah, Oprah might do a good job. but, her show cuts to way too many commercials I find. You know what would be even better? An ABC special program with Barbera Walters would be really great. Or something similar like that, where they discuss the facts, the emotions, and different aspects of the disorder and not just the one persons experience, but different people's experience. Barbera is really great at getting those emotional moments on tape, and it really tugs at people's heartstrings. But we absolutely should document the positve as well as the negative, AND explain the difference between Austism and AS. I mean I hate when people hear that AS is a type of Autism, and then they think Rain Man and then they think I must be ret*d, but its not true at ALL.
