Saw X Men first class yesterday, was great

I care about continuity and plot holes about as much as I care about who Britney Spears is currently dating, so hearing that First Class doesn't perfectly synch up with the previous films means nothing to me. Kudos to Vaughn for making the film he wanted to make without worrying about the complaints of a tiny minority of geeks. When you start making decisions just to please the fans, you get a movie like X-Men 3.

I really enjoyed how the beginning of the film extends the "what happened to Erik after he was knocked unconscious in the Nazi concentration camp" scene from the first X-men film.

X-Men has been an obvious metaphor since the very beginning. If you were growing up in the 60s and you were black or gay or in any way an outsider, those comics meant a lot more to you than most people.

I just got back with seeing X-Men First Class with my dad,brother, and my brother's friend. It is easily the best X-Men movie yet, easily better than the rest, and up there with The Dark Knight in great superhero movies. It has humor,suspense,tension,drama, and it really makes the characters human and deep. It actually makes the choice between Prof. X's integrationist movement and Magneto's Separatist movement seem real and morally grey, and not so black and white like in the other X-films. I hope that Michael Vaughn stays with the franchise, it could really use it after the crap that was X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

I still can't decide which one I like better. X2 or First Class.

I read on the wiki page for First Class that Fox is turning First Class into a trilogy. I wonder what they are going to do in X-Men: Second Class? Maybe introduce Cyclops,Storm and Phoenix( you can see Cykes and Storm as children when Prof X first uses the Cerebro), have Magneto form his Brotherhood of Mutants with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch finally getting the big screen treatment, and maybe, finally introduce the Sentinels. Maybe bring some X-Men that haven't appeared, like Sunfire and Forge, if Havok and Banshee can get the big screen treatment, then surely some more little known X-Men can.

Speaking of Havok, what relation, if any will he have with Cyclops? He is clearly very much older than Cyclops, they can still be brothers, but I wouldn't be surprised if they opt for a half-brother relationship or a father-son relationship. Or they can not be related at all, like how the Juggernaut and Prof. X aren't related in the movies.

The X-Men movies seem to be pairing just anyone up as either a couple or blood relatives e.g. Charles Xavier and Mystique grew up together, didn't see that coming. Rogue and Iceman dating and Storm and Nightcrawler seem to have a thing going on. In the following sequels depending on how many more they are making I would love to see other villains besides Magneto pop up like Mr Sinister or Apocalypse.

I'm going to take the afternoon off and see this for the first time. Envy me.

So, I just saw the movie. It was great. I'm a sucker for comics and cold war history, so it was an easy sell.

I loved the art direction--early 60s Vegas, the Dr. Strangelove war room, the great furniture (I want that black lounge set from the secret base) and retro uniforms was a hoot!

I really loved Magneto's story too. It was one of the most emotionally compelling plots I've experienced in a LONG time. There's really nothing better than a tragic villain.

I saw it last weekend, and it was absolutely fantastic. The Hugh Jackman cameo was either a dig at the last two movies, or just the dollar signs above Jackman's head. Whichever way it was, the franchise is right back on it's feet. Matthew Vaughn does for X Men what Christopher Nolan did for Batman.

As for the casting, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Kevin Bacon are all excellent.

"X-Men: First Class" is definitely one of my five all-time favourite science fiction movies, along with Star Wars Ep. IV, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. and Aliens. My only quibble is that they killed off the black guy - typical for a Hollywood movie, but a bit strange in a movie about racial tolerance...

My favourite character was Hank McCoy, because I too used to be top of my class, and I pick up stuff with my feet a lot (I see no sense in wasting a pair of limbs). In fact, my mother often joked that I was meant to be a monkey, but they ran out of hair halfway through.
