No. No it's not. They subjected us to that one day at anime club and everyone wanted to burn the president.

Some of the best series I've seen are the following-
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Vandread
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Ah My goddess

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo has a very peculiar sort of humor. If you don't get it that's fine, but don't take it out on the fans.

And I can't watch a full episode of Cowboy Bebop because I want to throw stuff at the screen every time Ed opens her mouth. Or maybe just every time she's on screen.

Cowboy Bebops a very good show (Id go as far as to say its a classic) but yeh, Eds particular form of "comic relief" is INCREDIBLY annoying

I beg to differ about Anime never being American. Look here:

http://www.kazeghostwarrior.com/

I call that anime.

Anime, by definition, has to be Japanese

As a rule, yes, you're right. However, Kaze: Ghost Warrior is the exception which, paradoxically, proves that rule.

I cant say I'm much of a fan of American Anime - although I did watch a fair bit of it back when I was younger. I've seen every episode of Pokemon and Sailor Moon only because it was that or Power Rangers or something equally boring on. I will admit that I did like Pokemon, it had a good plot and loveable characters, plus the game was amazingly addictive itself.

However I prefer the true animes. My all time favourite is Chobbits - so much so that the movie I, Robot pisses me off to no end (obvious ripoff). After that there's Hellsing - another classic. Dragon Ball / DBZ (not DB:GT) and I mean the japanese versions not the Funimation crap that plays here in North America.

Some others I enjoy are Angelic Layer, Full Metal Alch, Naruto (although I'm not too huge on this one), Macrosse, Ghost in a Shell, Ninja Scroll (the movie, not the short lived series)...

But this onslaught of pseudo-anime like Digimon makes me want to throw faeces at the television. I've totally lost repsect for stations such as Fox and YTV because thats all they play. Make it stop!

I think youll find both Pokemon and Sailor Moon are Japanese. And if they were American, they wouldnt be anime. As I said before theres no such thing as American anime.

Elfen Lied is worth a watch, but boy is it grim. It's also not for the squeamish, limbs and heads go flying everywhere.

that was my first thought. was just talking about boondocks earlier today....we were discussing how much the animation looks like it was done by the same guys who did cowboy bebop.

The way I see it, Anime is just another cartoon. (I heard that the name itself was a contraction of Animation, which makes sense because the Japanese do that a lot.)

This is not to say that I don't like it. Quite the opposite, I love it.

But I don't see any (good) reason why Western Cartoons can't have deep and thought provoking stories as well. ('Funny' is significantly less of a problem)

Well their are elements in Japanese Culture that are reflected in the genre that make it interesting, the same could be said for our own.

So really my point is that it's not so much that I like 'Anime' so much as I like animation, and the Japanese kind is generally much better put together.

As far as things being influenced by Anime, that to me isn't so much a problem. Just seems to be it's become the 'in' thing to do. Generally concentrating on the elements that aren't really what makes it such a great (in general) genre.

It all depends on the definition of anime, IMO.
Define it.

I don't mind it as much. I just wish they'd attempt to improve the writing style to match anime.
