I enjoy anime a ton, but I do have to agree that some of the fans are just stupid. I became obsessed a while ago, but I maintained my sanity as far as I'm aware of. I never say ~desu, kawaii, or any other wapanese very often and I only say "Ohayo" whenever I mention the state of Ohio, which isn't that often. (budum, chiiii)
I guess I'm spoiled with the fact that most of the anime fans I know aren't annoying, or at least I don't think they are. However, I do try not to associate myself with shows that have giant fanbases and a bad reputation within. It does come at a cost: all my animes are obscure and no one ever wants to talk about them or sometimes even watch them.
