Who would they fight? It would have to be someone dangerous enough that would acquire attention from both Batman and Superman. Not Joker or Ra' Al Ghul. They just did both of them in Nolan's trilogy. Yes, I've seen Superman go rogue before, but it wasn't his fault. His mind had been taken over during those times. That will probably be the case here.
In
The Dark Knight Returns, Batman's become such a political liability with his vigilantism that Superman has no choice but to bring him in. Trouble is, Batman won't go down without a fight.

I'm still pulling for a LexCorp/Project Cadmus/Government program to neutralize Superman...
It would be an interesting twist if Batman started out on the side of the conspiracy before he gets to know Superman.
