I can't really call Rick an idiot, he's more crazy than anything and if Carol stayed she'd still be a liability, given what she did and how Tyrese will react. And if I recall correctly Rick got shot in his leg.
The Governor was shot in the arm before he was choking out Rick. Rick makes mistakes every show, I know he's human but a sheriff should have more fighting skills. Especially a redneck sheriff (no offense to any southerners.)
1. Rick shoots constantly one handed, only an idiot would do that with his life in danger. Is he WWI Tommy....it's annoyingly dumb of Rick to shoot like that. He is the only guy who does not get to cover and just stand their shooting. Sorry Rick deserves a Darwin award, Beth is a bigger badass than Rick.
2. Carol was his most useful asset, equal to Hershal and Daryl. Tyreese was violent, unstable, moody...totally useless in comparison to Carol. Choosing him over her was a dumb survival choice. Thus Rick is a pooptard and endangered everyone and appearing disloyal in Daryls eyes.
3. Taking Away Carls gun, Ricks a moron or he was trying to kill Carl. I'm guessing he's not trying to kill Carl, thus Ricks an idiot. Since a walker breakout can happen anywhere that was horribly irresponsible of Rick. Perhaps Ricks just crazy as you say...can't he be both?
4. Shane...one word. Rick had no idea, and put himself and others at risk cutting him endless breaks. Everyone but Rick knew Shane wanted to kill him...even dale. Rick takes idiotic chances all the time.
5. Letting the Governor to live, and not taking him out when he had the chance. Now the babies dead, Hershal's dead and everything is lost and for nothing. Everything worked for, energy, water, crops...it's allb for nothing. But at least Rick "followed his heart"...
1. Rick always shoots like that and gets kills, usually.
2. Carol was kind of an asset and a liability. Tyreese was violent and mad and honestly had every right to be, and by keeping both of them in the same location at the same time, after finding out would've caused more tension. Hell, Tyreese might've gone to try and kill Carol himself, which would've made things worse since now Rick and Co. would've gotten rid of him.
3. He took his gun away only because none of them really needed it at that point, given the "30 days without an incident" schtick. Granted, a walker attack COULD happen anywhere but as of that point everything was just fine and dandy.
4. Shane was pretty good at masking his want to kill Rick, well most of the time excluding that fistfight they had at the schoolyard. At the same time you can put some blame on Dale and everyone else for not warning him explicitly about Shane trying to kill him.
5. Keeping the Governor alive was pretty bad, but from a story standpoint it had to be that way. Plus there's no guarantee the baby's dead.
