The rant wasn't on-air, but in the bar of their hotel. Jeremy and Richard held their helicopter for a few hours at the shoot so that they could get hammered, and then when they arrived at the hotel, the kitchen had closed. Other guests reported that the profanity-laced rant went on for hours, culminating in ethnic slurs and the infamous punch. I don't advocate punching people, but in this particular case, I think that the verbal violence was actually worse.

Oh, I didn't know about the slurs during the "fracas", I thought you meant the jokes he made during the show about the French or some such thing. Wasn't the victim of the punch Irish or something? He has a vaguely Irish sounding name (I don't know Irish though).

I suspect that clarkson is an equal-opportunity offender, and that if he were to get into a drunken fracas with a producer who happened to be a close relative, he would have found some colorful ways of insulting him.

Where exactly are ethnic slurs "colorful," instead of "over the line?"

Chris Evans! And at least one female co presenter! I like Chris, I'm looking forward to finding out who the other co presenters will be.

If I may.. An Englishman calling an Irishman a "Lazy Irish C**t" and then punching him is probably where the line is. The abuse from Top Gear fans being directed at Oisin online paints a dismal picture of humanity, especially when I consider that Clarkson reported the incident and not Tymon.

Regardless, I did enjoy the dynamic between the trio, its the end of an era.

I liked the trio. Although I watched the final episode I found it a bit boring to be honest, very predictable.

However getting Chris Evans to take over is a good choice (I think). Chris Evans in the past has been very controversial I think he might just keep that edge Clarkson had.

I want to be optimistic about the new line up and I hope it will work out well. I know that they are keeping the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car segment.

The three stuges *were* Top Gear; i indeed watched it for their antics, not for the cars.

I will not watch the new top gear, but should the trio return to any new show (cars or otherwise), i'd watch the color out of it

I don't watch television and haven't owned one for over two decades but « Top Gear » was a series of racing games for the SNES back in the day. Kind of disappointed that this thread isn't actually about the original racing car theme...

Does bring back memories though of the high-speed runs of one of the best racing games ever to have been released in my game-records.

Top Gear is so overhyped. Never liked it and never will.

I suspect that sometimes in such cases the explanations made public are but the proverbial tip of an iceberg of additional reasons that, taken all together, offered sufficient cause.

Hiring Chris Evans was the final nail. He is an insufferable prick, can't stand the git.

At least we have the trio's new show to look forward to. Very likely on Netflix and will have a bigger budget.
