Our drive to see stories always transposed to our time and culture is not necessarily good for us. As foreign modes of perception are constantly shaved away, and replaced with ones that are current and already well known to us, film loses some of its power to broaden our horizons.

Besides, I think the Prequels are in for a critical re-assessment as audiences discover that Jar Jar was a Sith Lord. Something that most of us weren't perceptive enough to realize at the time, despite the fact that this revelation is foreshadowed in nearly everything he does.

I've always liked the prequels and this is why. With all the technological abuse and pandering to target groups in these films for profit, there's still an underlying strong story that is very satisfying. It's funny more people don't see this in the prequels, with all the love people have for KOTR II, they basically explore the same themes of how the Jedi code is fallible and how there are other paths than just a strict light side v dark side conflict.

I'm personally in the neutral about disney having the rights and the upcoming films. I hope they're good, but they might get too swept up in the nostalgia of the originals and not have any real compelling new material. Seems like everyone's in a rush to cover up the prequels when they do have there merits. I am impressed with Star Wars Rebels though, so I'm starting to feel good about them.

On George Lucas infamously up dating the originals with new CGI, I wish he'd have done it again or that someone will, they already did it once and they might as well make it actually look good this time instead of using 2005 or whatever year age graphics they did the first time.

Disney won't remake the prequels for a simple reason, they are too political. Right now what Hollywood care the most about is getting in the China market, which mean submitting to the Chinese governments censorship. We can forget about a story of a democracy changed in a empire by a evil dictator, it wouldn't pass the Chinese censorship board. http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-ways-china-hollywood-are-teaming-up-to-ruin-movies/

Wait a minute, why does the U.S. have to pass a "Chinese censorship board?"

Not the US, Hollywood movies, at least if the studios want their movies to be distributed in China with it's more than one billions peoples. This is the main thing Hollywood care about nowadays, betraying democracy for a sweet amount of money. As for the Chinese they use this opportunity to take control of Hollywood. That's why I'm of the advice that Hollywood need to die, so world culture (Hollywood got that much influence) won't be controlled by a authoritarian government; with the internet and the lack of ambition and ideas in Hollywood it could well happen within ten years.

How do you suppose Hollywood should die? I'm sure we wouldn't want it to end in an act of war/terrorism.

Comic Book Guy: Philip K Dick! It can't be! It's as if Superman moved to Gotham City!
Martin: Which he did, in World's Finest Comics #94. (Points to the comic.) See?
Comic Book Guy: That was an imaginary story, dreamt by Jimmy Olsen after he was kicked in the head by Supergirl's horse, Comet. It never really happened.
Bart: None of these things ever really happened.
Comic Book Guy: Get out of my store!

They do if the Hollywood movies don't interest them anymore (Which is the case of a lot of peoples.) and the not-Hollywood movies they find online interest them more; Amazon and Netflix are producing their own movies now, and they don't follow the same rules as Hollywood.

As much as I can harp on about all the bad qualities of the prequels, I actually do still like them. The main issue with them, really, is that Lucas had too much control over them and no one seemed to try to reel him in a bit. Admittedly, some of the heavy uses of CGI can be justified, and also has aged well, but it still could have been toned down in favor of more practical effects in some cases.

They are also the ones that came out while I was growing up, and so are a part of my childhood. I don't want to see them remade anytime soon. Besides, I think Episode Three made more sense in novel form than in movie form (I read the book version long before I actually sat down and watched the film, since I didn't get a chance to see it in theaters).
