Why can't actors just keep their mouths shut in these cases?
Oh okay, I thought it was mainly because of what she said, because after she said, the show got cancelled.
Actors are people to...they have feelings and emotions and it seems a ridiculous request that they never let any of that out. Why shouldn't actors and actresses be able to say what they think about things? Does gaining fame mean a person is not a person anymore? Maybe people should just stop putting actors and actresses as well as other celebrities on a pedestal. They are just people...human beings on some level they are no different than the rest of us.
Why shouldn't actors have an opinion? Its your own fault if you think they force your opinion...like why do you have to listen to a celebrity? If you can't form your own opinion and are that putty like that any actor or actress can corrupt your opinion just by saying something you don't agree with then its you with the problem not the celebrity that said the thing you don't like.
I guess it is a bit different if an actor or actress or celeb, goes on record saying they will commit a criminal act or some kind of violence...like that should be a serious matter. But other then that I don't get why people get so enraged whenever an actor has an opinion on something.
Of course actors are allowed to have an opinion and of course they are people, I just didn't think that had an absolute need to voice that opinion to the media. I'm a person and there are certain things I will talk about to my friends in private, that I would never talk about to the media, out of fear of the public judging you. I thought actors would have that same fear, and would rather just keep controversial comments in between friends, privately, like a lot of people do.

Well I admit I don't know for sure, its just what I suspect, because from what I could tell as far as the internet said it didn't seem like it was getting a lot of viewers to begin with. Then she went and said something the network found embarrassing so they didn't want to bother keeping the show and no one else wanted to pick it up after.
That said not all the opinions stated by actors or whatever are even very controversial, does seem some people want them to entertain but for them not to have any opinions. Like an old example was that country girl band the dixie chicks or whatever who didn't like president george w bush, and everyone was so offended. I mean who the hell cares but I just remember when I was a kid hearing so much negative media about them...like I had barely even heard of that band before and admittedly didn't hear anything else about them after that uproar. If anything I didn't even like country but all that media attention made me want to know more about them. I mean all they did was exercise their freedom of speech and make crappy pop-country music, but those aren't crimes.

Oh okay, I just feel this whole freedom of speech thing is an illusion because of you can get in trouble in your career for freedom of speech, like Rosanne Barr or Mel Gibson, or Liam Neeson did, than that's not freedom, since there is consequences.
So I guess I just feel why is it worth it, just to make a point, that people are not going to agree with likely, if you have something that is considered risky to say?

So a woman told him she was raped by a black guy so he deliberately went to black areas waiting for them to attack him and no attack ever occurred.
So he did become racist after that story but became unracist by going in black areas.
Oh, whew, so he sees everyone as equal then.

Y'see, while the government could not arrest Mel Gibson for what he said, the Court of Public Opinion is perfectly free to indict, try, convict and sentence him to boycott, censure, "shunning", and a host of other socially-acceptable behaviors. It's like posting on WrongPlanet -- say nice things, and people leave you alone; act like a jerk, and risk being suspended or banned without your "free speech rights" being violated. Simple.
Now does it make sense?

Oh yes, I get that it's a freedom, to the extent that you won't be arrested, but what kind of attitude is it to have where you are fine risking your career and reputation, and have people hate you, as long as you don't get to prison?
Don't you want to keep your career and reputation as well?
This isn't about me, it's about Mel Gibson and your obsession with him.

Because not everyone will hate them. The country is divided politically, so by expressing a point of view you will get half the country to hate you and the other half of the country to love you even more. So it kinda balances out.
Also, once you reach a celebrity status, you are not going to be ostracized. Even the people that "claim" to hate these celebrities still love their music. So they don't truly hate them but rather they are like "wow isn't it interesting that this cool celebrity said something nasty?" It might well give them the attention that they crave (and celebrities love attention as evident by their career choice).
Don't you want to keep your career and reputation as well?
Oh my god, a celebrity has an opinion, let's shut them up.

Yeah, joking, that's the point. People have opinions, just because they are celebrities doesn't mean they shouldn't voice them, though. Lebron needed to stfu.

As I've posted before, any publicity (that doesn't get you arrested, of course) is good publicity. Keeping your name in the minds of the public, movie critics, and casting directors almost assures that you will get an offer.
