My bad! By 'dinosaur' I meant pre-Kindle canonical Sci-Fi writers like, say, Asimov (yeah, "I Robot"), Harlan Ellison, Robert Silverburg, Anne McCaffery...Philip K Dick, who has broken through in a major way.

The first three authors may be too cerebral to make it in Hollywood, but I’d think the McCaffrey books would make for great cinema.

I loved Dune, the book. I think I watched one Dune movie and was not all that impressed.

Asimov is actually getting attention. IRobot got an adaptation that was utterly disconnected except for the 3 laws, but a Foundation series is currently being made that promises to be a bit more faithful.

Philip K. Dick's material is constantly being adapted. No reason for him to be on this list.

I'm cautiously excited. Try not to hype myself up for projects especially adaptations that are fraught with the faithfulness conundrum.

That said the talent assembled is impressive. Villenueve and Chalamet are two of the hottest commodities in hollywood right now. The rest of the cast is filled with name actors that are either impressively talented (Ferguson, Isaac) or cast in a role that suits them (Momoa, Bautista).

Add a Hans Zimmer score, a guarantee that this is only half the book (alleviating pacing concerns), and impressive special effects and this has the potential to be truly great.

Of course. I was thinking of my poor non SciFi-loving probable audience. Had I mentioned say Theodore Sturgeon. Algys Budrys, and Michael Moorcock, all more appropriate, how many people would really know whom I was referring to?
