I read the entire book in one sitting..... My back hurt pretty bad the next day.

Very good book, a very different style then the previous ones, which I found nice.

Apparently even though J. K. Rowling has stated that this will be the last Harry Potter book, it will not by the last wizarding world book. She has plans to write a sort of "Harry Potter encyclopedia" which will answer such questions as what happens to all the surviving characters after the last book, as well as plenty of background information on the wizarding world. In addition she may write a book about the life of Dumbledore. I'm going to guess that the encyclopedia will come out first since much of it is written already, it just needs to be organized into book form.

I loved the book and I can't wait for the Encyclopedia. There's one thing I'm confused about...

SPOILER: Why was Colin at Hogwarts. Isn't he supposed to be muggle-born? In COS he said:

Quote:
It's amazing here, isn't it? I never knew all the odd stuff I could do was magic till I got the letter from Hogwarts. My dad's a milkman, he couldn't believe it either.
And what about Dennis? it doesn't seem like he'd want to be left behind if Colin had found a way to get into Hogwarts.

I finished it, but there are two things in the book that "irk" me. neither is all that central to the story so I assume I'm safe in posting it here but just in case.

One on pages 300- 500 they say several times that no one can see through harry's cloak. though wasn't in just in the last book that they said Mad eye could see under it, and indeed anyone with a magical eye could.

Two. Voldemort is in Ravenclaw. However, in the first book when they are about to be sorted, doesn't Ron whisper, "They say there isn't a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin." Given voldemort's popularity, ad the fact Ron grew up hearing about him, don't you think he would have known that Voldemort wasn't in Slytherin

No Voldemort was in Slytherin because he was the heir of Slytherin and he also opened the Chamber of Secrets with his ability to talked to snakes.

Anyone got a quote or at least a book that says he was Ravenclaw?

As far as I understood, he got the diadem in Albania, not as a Ravenclaw.

Voldemort was a Slytherin. On Page 612 it says

Quote:
How was it possible that Voldemort, the Slytherin, had found the diadem that had eluded generations of Ravenclaws?

i just finished reading the second half of book five and all of books six and seven... in one sitting (not counting bathroom breaks).

i also started ritalin today... i think it's working?

//

book seven was PERFECT... i was so scared that it would have a sad or sappy ending... but it turned out exactly the way i had always hoped. i am so relieved!

//

i was stunned to find out that the series took place in the early nineties. i always figured harry was my age since book one came out when i was eleven.

on the bright side, now i don't feel like a pedophile for having a crush on luna. except this means she's several years older than me... that could actually be a lot worse.

I loved it. Best one of the series. What do you guys think that dying baby near Harry when he was talking to imaginary dumbledore was? I guess it represents the dead soul of voldemort within harry?

Definitely.

How can any self respecting harry potter fan think for a second that voldemort was in ravenclaw? You know he isn't after the first book!

Good point about Creevy... The Carrows would never have let him in.

Really? In Chamber of Secrets Nearly-Headless Nick invited Harry, Ron, and Hermione to his 500th deathday party, and his headstone said that he died in 1492. 1492 + 500 = 1992, which means that Chamber of Secrets took place in 1992. 1992 - 12 = 1980, which means Harry must've been born in 1980. He was one year old when Voldemort killed his parents, so that means that it was 1981 when that happened.

Hooray for mathematics! :D

further date controversy!

in his letter to sirius in chapter two of goblet of fire, harry mentions that dudley threw his PlayStation out the window. chapter three mentions that harry's birthday has already occured, meaning it is august of 1994. however, the sony playstation was not released until december of 1993 (in japan) and didn't make it to europe until september 29, 1995- at which point harry would be back at school a year later.

also, i think that "playstation" is the only real brand name ever mentioned in any of the books. odd choice.

Ah, yes, I wondered where that was. Still, knowing the Dursleys, the PlayStation was imported. Dudley is pretty spoiled, you know? :roll:

Eh, I'm not really sure either. :wink: But at least J.K. Rowling used a gaming brand name. ^_^
